New & Politics OT Thread #5 : Where We Shoot the Breeze....

Quote:
Hey, it's all good. Musicals aren't for everyone. I have no illusions about that. I don't think that everyone out there has to at least love one musical.

But I do love them myself. Quite a lot, actually. Like, to a ridiculous amount.

It's not very surprising considering I grew up watching very little television except for three movies that were practically on a loop at my house: the original Star Wars trilogy (once we got it on VHS), the Sound of Music and Grease.

And I come from a family of singers. Now, I can't sing at all. Can't carry a tune to save my life. But everyone around me sang when I was growing up. It's what we do at family gatherings and parties. And we have a lot of those.

It's just part of who I am.
As you were...

But, seriously, musicals are my thing. I love them all
That's great, Sunny. I can't remember the last time I got out to see any type of show - not even a movie! I'll have to make an effort to get out and do that this summer.

That's great Sunny. I love how you talk about musicals. I can feel your passion

And btw, does the old Disney classics count as musicals? There always was a lot of songs in them, anyhow

You know, Caroline, you got me thinking... I can't remember the last time I even sat down in my own house to watch a movie, let alone went out to see one. Very strange.

Callace, old Disney movies are usually regarded as musicals, yes. But I haven't seen very many of those, I must say. I know that sounds weird. But we weren't very much in touch with current cultural things in my house. The first one I remember seeing was The Lion King, and I was... at least a tween if not a full-on teen when that came out.

Well, it's been a very rainy day here in Montreal. Which suited my mood just fine. I was very drowsy and tired most of the day. But, hey, I pulled through.

Now I've got the VCR ready to tape So You Think You Can Dance while I do the Third Watch re-watch with the folks over at that board... Should be fun!

Well, I'm really hoping to see Eclipse on the 30th, at the very least. Are you going to see it?

Hi Karen!

back

I will personally go see Eclipse at some point, definitely not one of the opening weekend early dates. And I'll probably be a dork and wear my one Wolf Girl t-shirt

I really want to go see Eclipse and I'm sure I'll eventually find my way there... once the screaming crowds have come and gone.

It makes me feel so old to even say it, but I really can't stand the teenage audience. It's wonderful that they're so reactive, but it's difficult to be around them when they don't see to realize that other people are trying to have an experience as well.

terrible rain today I got wet already when I had gotten out from the police station and down town to an ATM to get money for the bus. Only to find that the security guards are on strike, so that most ATMs in town are out of money,So then I had to walk all the further, to find a place where I could get the cash I needed, and was so soaked by the time I was finally home, that I had to change most of my clothes.

I hate the rain, Callace. Well, I hate it when I have to walk in it. So I feel your pain.

Over here, we had a very short, very random power outage earlier today. It didn't last more than an hour and it was only 8 p.m., so it was still quite light out, but it was kinda shocking in that you don't realize how much you rely on electricity till its not an option!

I actually love power outages. When I was a kid, they usually meant candle lit supper, with storytelling around the table, and jokeful guesses of how long it would take till the power was back. I was nearly disappointed when it did, the lights went on again, and everyone went back to their business

Oh, I totally agree!

I loved power outages as a kid for exactly those reasons. It's like taking a break from your life.

The only issue I now have is that, when I was a kid, my parents were in charge of figuring out what we ate. As an adult, without electricity, I was a bit stumped as to what I might eat.

And we were at the very beginning of what is turning out to be a super muggy weekend, so it might have gotten really hot.

But, fortunately, the power came back rapidly. And it's been a lazy weekend ever since.

Yeah, things get a little more complicated as an adult But a lot of food is best served cold (and ought to be eaten, if the fridge is to be unfunctional for any stretch of time

And we fortunately dont have the heat problem over here. If the power goes out, it gets cold, not hot. So then it is just to put on an extra sweater
