N.H. Legislature Approves Gay Marriage - NYTimes.com

New Hampshire is the 6th state in the US to legalize gay marriage, following Connecticut, Massachusetts, Iowa, Vermont, and Maine. New Hampshire is the third state (following Vermont and Maine) to pass a same-sex marriage law in the legislature.

I'm slightly surprised given that NH is the most divided of the New England states.

That's great. I'm glad to hear it. Hopefully the number of states that accepts gay marriage will continue to grow so that more opportunities are available to gay couples.

i don't know. RI seems like it's going to be the only New England state to not have it legalized by the end of the year =[.

I'm kind of surprised as well. I wouldn't have guessed that the next state would be NH.

It still shocks me that a state like New Hampshire approves gay marriage before an alleged "progressive" state like California. Our world is a funny place.

Yeah, that definitely surprised me. Sure, New Hampshire has gone more towards the liberal side of things over the past couple of elections, but it's never been one of the top "most progressive" states in the US like California. What a strange country we live in.

That said, I'm so happy that it finally got passed.

I agree with OTH_Leyton_4eva that it should have been passed last time it ended up on Lynch's desk, but equality eventually won, which is what matters.

I grew up in NH so I'm really proud my home state. But I am very surprised b/c it was very conservative when I was growing up there (80s/90s).
