The new generation!

I walked into Nordstrom’s recently and was awestruck by the array of designers, colors, fashions, the new gimmicks they had and more. The way in which departments stores are choosing to target their customers has drastically changed and it is so clearly evident just by walking in the door. There is a shift in the landscape of high-end department stores and it seems to be based on the children of the wealthy! There will be a more in depth look at this in this weekends’ copy of the Wall Street Journal.

Take a trip to Telluride, Colorado if you really want to see a sicking display of "high-end" retail.... like pet stores that carry $8 dog treats or the $90 collars.

Schaussi's Alpen Schatz | We carry La Cinopelca Products!

T-ride is sickmade though regardless of all the rich people.

Man, I live in a poor neighborhood...there isn't a high end department store...nor pretty much any department store in a 3 mile radius...unless you count dollar stores...

Wait, but isn't Nordstrom an expensive store to begin with? I don't shop there because it's way out of my price range. So maybe if there were big labels in stores like Target or Jcpenny then I would agree with you.

You know what, I am by no means wealthy - maybe a little under middle-class - I don't know.

I have 2 kids, 8 and 2 years old. My husband works full-time and I do part-time daycare and we all share a home with my mom and sister because this area is so incredibly expensive. I live in the Northern Virginia area about 1 mile from D.C.

Anyhow, with that said - I shop at Nordstrom occasionally - and a long time ago I always thought the same thing about their prices. HOWEVER, when they have sales - their clothes and shoes - can be lower in price than Target clothes. I bought my daughter 4 T-Shirts that were $22 originally for $6.50 each. And they wash better and wear better than Target.

I bought myself a pair of Sketcher tennis shoes a few years back for $14.00 and I use them for walking still.

I don't really pay too much attention to displays because I'm not influenced by ads, displays, etc. I have a material issue. I can't stand things unless they are comfortable so when I walk through store I usually just grab at stuff and see what they are made of.

What's funny is last night we walked through Nordstrom to go into the mall and my daughter said, "Mommy, those manikins have some really funny looking lips".

To my knowledge Nordstrom’s has always been aimed to the wealthier customer. That’s not to say they don’t have sales, but even during sales the prices can be pretty high.
