I did not want McCain to become my next president because I don't trust him and think he not conservative enough to appeal to my conservative side and not liberal in the areas I'm liberal in.

I did not want Obama to become my next president because, among other things, I disagree with his plan to raise taxes in the higher income brackets. I believe that in America, life is what each man makes it for himself, and I do not want a president who believes it is the duty of the government to enforce people to support each other financially.

I voted for Barr because although I knew he had no chance of winning, he represented my beliefs the best of all the candidates, and I wanted to be able to walk away from the polling booth happy that I stayed true to my values, even if it wouldn't make a difference in the election results.
I remember you from way way. Glad to see you've returned

hey I'm Laura. I'm nineteen from Austin, Texas. I am a third year government/middle eastern studies major. I am learning Arabic, have a studio art minor, love to paint and take pictures. I also enjoy debating with people to get new perspectives on situations and to challenge my outlooks. Oh i'm a Supreme Court junkie? And I don't post often but when I do I am usually on the Off Topic board. I wait tables and hate it but it pays the bills... I guess that's about it

I've been posting intermittently here since the board started, but anyay....I'm Shahnaz, 21 from England. I'm a final year university student in History and English (double major). I've always been involved/interested in politics and I would consider myself left-leaning/liberal. I'm anti-death penalty, anti-Iraq war, pro-universal healthcare and equality and am passionate about human rights. That said, I'm always interested in hearing other perpectives and am open to genuine discussion.

Personal interests are inter-faith discussion, womens rights and healthcare.

I graduate in June and have no idea what I want to do next! Hope you're all well.

Hi,

My name is Toonaspie...or Toony...or Toons. I prefer to not reveal my real first name cuz I dont feel comfortable with doing so. I'm 25 years old female from Indiana.

So I guess we're sharing our personal/political views...hmm...

Well I REALLY dont have a political opinion...in fact my biggest regret was voting in the 2008 Presidental elections because I thought both leading candidates were awful and the whole election was a media sham. There was too much pressure on voting because of how major the election was and that I had already registered a year prior. Man, I really wish I hadnt registered. I know that sounds awful but I lacked true knowledge of politics during my college years and I think it was wrong of me to vote without developing an actual opinion of the candidates issues. I think I'm gaining a few beliefs though through so much internet surfing...

...and mainly cuz I'm being raised by a dad who is a major Libertarian and he got my older sister convinced so I think that's where I'm headed. I think I'm leaning more towards conservatism as a result but I have maybe a few liberal beliefs. Hahaha see this is why I shouldnt have voted because the two sides are so opposite and one sided and I have neither beliefs.

Anyway, I had no idea there would be a forum like this...given how easy and extremely tempting it would be for bash wars to start here. But I'm aware of the rules, mods. To end this intro any other opinions I have will no doubt be expressed in any posts I make in this forum. Just look them up

Hey Toons!

Welcome!

Actually, we welcome every side of the spectrum here. I'm not gonna lie and pretend that some discussions don't get hairy. But we have one basic rule, really, and that's respect. So it's pretty easy to enforce.

Being Canadian, I have to say that I'm a little/a lot confused about this whole notion of "registering" for one party in particular. I mean, you can "register" for a party here, too. But, you know, there's a bazillion of them and it just means you're a member of the party. So, you know, you can also become a non-member. Whereas, and you correct me if I'm wrong there, it sounds like you're in it for life in the States.

Which is weird, considering how people change their minds twelve times a day as it is, so why would they automatically stick to one political party their whole lives?

Anyway, all of that to say hi!

Hi, I'm Kirsty and I'm 15, well 16 tomorrow. I'm from England.

As you can see I can't vote yet, we were having this discussion in my Sociology class the other day whether voting in my country should be lowered to 16. I feel in some cases some 16 year olds are more mature than some say 18 year olds, but there is the case of those who would not use their vote seriously.

I intend to take a politics related degree, when I go to university.

My names Amber, im 19 from England.
I have vastly different opinions from my family and friends in most areas, mostly politics (both english politics and those from overseas) I voted for the first time last year and now feel i made the wrong choice in who i voted for.

I really dont know what im doing with my life at the moment. I left college early last year because of family/emotional issues and now i'm confused about what to do. I kind of feel that i should have stuck with it because i had offers from Universities to study History but, oh well, thats life i suppose

Hi Amber!

Well, don't worry. You don't have to agree with anyone here. The only thing we ask for is that we all show respect towards one another.

I'm Nicole, 17 from England.

I've been mooching around here for a while and think I've only posted once.
I believe my views about different subjects are highly influenced by friends and family. That sounds like I can't form an opinion for myself but it's not like that, I guess you could say I'm just highly impressionable!

I'm extremely interested and concerned with the world around me and sometimes I feel like no one else really cares. I sponsor a Polar Bear via the WWF and I also Sponsor a child via Plan.

I'm in school right now, my final year studying Business and Media. I can't wait to leave and hopefully I'm going to Manchester Met University next year to study Businss Management.
