| Morality and Politics: Do they mix? A lot of threads sometimes turn to a morality debate, so I figured, why not have a thread dedicated solely to the topic. Discuss! And please remember to be civil! __________________ LJ | News & Politics | Battlestar Galactica | TS2 | PS Watch Battlestar Galactica every Friday at 10pm! [/B]![]() | |||

| I think morality in terms of ethics, yes, should be a consideration in politics and public policy. Morality in terms or religious or divine morality - not so much. __________________ (i do not know what it is about you that closes and opens;only something in me understands the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses) e. e. cummings - somewhere i have never traveled | |||

Morality... to me that's too subjective, which makes it a personal matter which has nothing to do with any job performance, whether in politics or no. __________________ Sunny "The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die." avie by Jessie

| First of all, I don't need politicians preaching morals to me. Many who do are in no position to do so like Newt Gngrich. As Larry Flint revealed that those who got on their hight moral horses with Clinton, were themselves guilty of moral misbehavior. | |||

| I think there is generally a universal difference between right and wrong, good and evil. I don't think religion and politics mix, but without a moral code, we don't have anything to fight for. If we believe that all morality is relative, then how do we legislate and protect others? __________________ "If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals." - Sirius Black, GoF | |||

But then maybe we should ask ourselves "should they mix?"I totally get what you're saying, Ashleigh, but if we take abortion as an example... maybe we shouldn't since there's already a thread on that subject... Okay, the death penalty, for instance. That's a really tough one for me to discuss because I have religious beliefs that would tell me that the death penalty is absolutely wrong no matter what the circumstances. But then someone might bring up their religious beliefs as to why it is absolutely right... So, based solely on religious arguments, we'd be at an impasse. __________________ Sunny "The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die." avie by Jessie
