March 11, 2005 -- A Queens woman was shot to death in a dentist's waiting room by her boyfriend yesterday — as her 13-year-old daughter was in the dentist's chair, police said.
The victim, Xian Quian Cheung, 41, exchanged words in the waiting room with Michael Hicks, who cops said was convicted of murdering a girlfriend 30 years ago.
Hicks, dressed all in black, allegedly pulled out a gun and shot her twice — once in the neck and once in the chest.
He then fled from Dr. Anderson Huang's office on Colden Street in Flushing. Police were still looking for him last night.
Cheung's 13-year-old daughter, Rish, was in the dentist's chair during the shooting.
Several children in the waiting room cowered in horror. "My son ran into the other side of the office. Thank God he's OK," said Eddie Garcia, who spoke to his child after the horrific attack.
Cheung lived in the Briarwood section, where a neighbor, Karen Li, said she was a single mom with two daughters. "They're a really nice family," Li said.
Police broke up a domestic violence incident between Hicks and Cheung last November.
The nature of their relationship since then was unclear last night, but Li said she found it odd that she saw Hicks, 51, outside Cheung's house only a few days ago.
"I saw him standing over there," she said pointing to the end of her block.
Hicks was convicted in 1974 of manslaughter for killing his girlfriend, said police sources.
He'd originally been charged with first-degree murder, but the charge was pleaded down to manslaughter, said the sources. Hicks was paroled in 1978.
Another former girlfriend is so scared of Hicks, she refused to tell police several years ago that he'd stolen money and credit cards from her, said the woman's landlord.
Hicks used the woman's apartment in Hollis as an address, but only stayed there one night a week, the landlord said.
"I hate him. He was a very rude man . . . He's a very abusive person," said the landlord.
"He stole all the woman's credit cards and went away . . . A lot of bill collectors called the woman," she added.
Last year, Hicks lived on Gates Avenue in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant section, said a woman who identified herself as a former landlord of his.
