I live in Madison, let me tell you, the whole city is shocked. Her family has been great throughout, we don't really blame them, and appreciate what they've done. All while she was missing they helped a lot, and really came together, and now that she's lied they're still working hard to find out what the story is, and haven't betrayed her, which I think takes a lot. My mom has been crazy about me going out, constantly calling me. We were all really worried, thinking there was a kidnapper on the loose, possibly a murderer. Local news last night said she's being treated--hopefully for some sort of mental illness. And yes, she can definetly go to jail. On thee news it told how much this was costing the Madison police--crazy!

I never knew anyone on here lived in Madison, strange.

I wouldv'e believed her until the video tape was released. When you go through something like that, you may not remember, you're still in shock. I'm jusst surprised at all the sympathy she's gotten. I guess it helps that her family has been representing her.

She must have wanted more than to be alone, because she made it look like she was kidnapped. She was tied up or something, why do that if you want to be alone?

Same here, I've only run into one more person from WI on the boards... though I'm not "from" Madison, I just go to school here. Though I'm still from Wisconsin... it's good to know though [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

When she made the "I just want to be alone" statement she was referring to wanting to be alone after the police confronted her about why she was changing her story and that they knew about the surveillance tape of her buying duct tape, rope, etc. I don't think she meant that she "wanted to be alone for 4 days so she faked a kidnapping," she obviously was planning on faking a kidnapping if she had bought all of that stuff - what else would it mean? Then she also used her computer during the time she was reported missing...

Someone HAD to have helped her with this, seeing as how she was missing for 4 days, I know she went back to her apartment and could've gotten money, but what was she doing and where was she before she went back? I hope the police are investigating that as well.

I cant understand what would posess someone to fake such a horrible crime like that. her case is simiar to the Natasha Ryan case thats in my country Australia right now.

Thats ridiculous that someone would *fake* an abduction... what the hell would be going through that girls mind?!?! I don*t think she needs to go to jail.. I think she needs to go to the looney bin!!!

The Natasha Ryan case was so much more horrible though - she hid herself away from everyone but her boyfriend for three years.

That's awful. But either way, these girls... What were they thinking?

She's being treated for mental care, but they won't release the hospital. Probably so angry people won't go bombard it.

The Natasha Ryan case was a lot worse. Her family held a friggen FUNERAL for her, and the bitch still didn't reveal herself. Someone was charged with her murder, and she STILL didn't reveal herself. I know its unreasonable, because its nothing to do with me, but I think Natasha Ryan is a selfish little bitch, who should be on her knees thanking her parents every day for forgiving her. Fair enough they had problems, but what she put them through it unforgivable.

This girl did the wrong thing, but she at least had the decency not to stay hidden. It seemed to be a cry for attention more then anything. I'm also glad she didn't blame it on the mythical "scary black man", a la Susan Smith.

This story has really made me mad since I heard about it. They spent time on someone playing a stupid prank because she "wanted to be alone for a few days" when real people are out there in real danger.

Needs serious jail time. This was extremely pre-meditated, elaborate and deliberate; it cannot be chalked up (solely) to mental troubles.

You have to be pretty selfish to pull something like that since she didn't stop to consider the effect it would have on everyone else around her...
Not to mention the time and resources which were wasted in order to find her, which could have been better used in locating someone else who might have really been in trouble and needed the help.

If I want to be alone I go into my room, turn on my music, and ask my parents to let me be. Even though she thought this through there has to be heavy psychological trouble for her to do something like this. She seemed to be a good student but she also said she was attacked a month or so earlier and the police are saying that's suspicious and that it might have been made up as well. There is a cry for attention as well as other things. I wouldn't blow her off as crazy until we see her mental status and what she's going through first though. A lot of things in this world can make people do some crazy stuff because they don't think it through.
