I'm so incredibly sad. I feel like an era has ended and like someone who helped raised me just died. This is one of the saddest days in music history.

You know someone told me and I didn't believe it at first.......Sad Sad day

You know with all Michael went through all his life since he was boy......he had a hard life.

Prayers go out to the Jackson family and friends.

Music will never be the same...the fools now can't put out quality music.

I'm sorry I'm still in shock.

There's also a great appreciation going on at the Music board:

Michael Jackson/The Pop King Appreciation #2: "A major strand of our cultural DNA has left us." - John Mayer.

It's still such a shock that Michael is really gone.

Ya know growing up in the 80s I listened to a lot of people and the one person that always struck me was Michael. His music, his videos, his legacy always got me happy, singing, and dancing at times. Today it feels like the dance has left me and I have no song to sing. The world is truly better that Michael Jackson was in it and now it feels like the world is missing a big chunk of that legacy that he will always leave behind

yes he did... it's just unfortunate that his life was so difficult and so saddening that we've lost such a musical genius and philanthropist way too soon.

I cannot believe this. I was hoping this was a sick rumor.

We all grew up listening to Michael. It is hard to even understand how much he impacted today's pop music, and the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions of records this man sold.

There will never be another artist like him.
RIP, MJ!

I was so shocked when I heard this. I thought I heard incorrectly.

His talent and influence cannot be overstated.

Okay can famous people stop dying now for a little bit? I've heard things happen in 3 (3 famous people have died in the past two days) but this is just ridiculous!

This is shocking news. I remember when his History 2 disk CD was released. Was only 11 then it took me until 1998 to get em, but did & still have it. Michael Jackson will be remembered for a long time. His ''Thriller'' video to this day is 1 of the scariest things I've seen.

It's a huge shock.

I feel even worse about it because I was going to see him in London in July, and now I never will.

He is still to this day one of the best music artists ever, no one hates his music he was that talented.

what a legacy to leave behind, though

both good and bad. Amazing how one person could have such a huge impact on pop culture

My friend texted me to say "didn't you have MJ tickets... don't think you'll be going now", I assumed the shows had been canceled so was incredibly shocked when I turned on the news. He was so talented and I cant believe he's actually gone at only 50 .

I live in Holland and very late last night I saw the news that Michael suffered from cardiac arrest. So I stayed up really late and so I turned on CNN and there I saw it that he had passed it is horrible, so horrible, it´s the end of an erra. I just can´t believe it.. His music will live on forever. RIP Michael!

We didnt believe it at work for like an hour.
Our boss kept looking for information on the internet. It finally hit home when we found out the LA Times confirmed it.

I grew up listening to Bad. I got the tape when I was 7 or 8. He was such a huge deal growing up. I love just rockin out on a dance floor with my friends to MJ.
The world will miss his music and hopefully his legacy will live on.

There will never be another Michael Jackson.
