Mel Gibson's Anti-Semitic remarks

I don't buy his bloody apology for a second. You don't make remarks like that if you're not an anti-Semite. His father denies the Holocaust. The Passion was an anti-Semitic film.

Ditto.
And yes, Passion was an Anti-Semitic film.

Ugh. I remember all the press about his father during the promotion of the Passion and how he dodged all questions about anti-semitism. Guess you can't keep these things hidden for too long.

Precisely Lexis...I mean, what kind of man, when drunk, would say something like that?

In vino veritas.

Still, it sounds to me like the real story here is that Gibson was caught driving while intoxicated. He realized how bad that could be for him, so he freaked out and made it worse.

I've had trouble taking Mel Gibson seriously since Passion of the Christ. Whenever I hear about him now I keep picturing him dancing about in his underwear in the South Park episode "The Passion of the Jew". Actually, this DUI freakout fits rather well with that mental (no pun intended) picture.

I'm hoping this will make it harder for people to defend The Passion. It's scary that a film that promotes anti-Semitic attitudes the way that one does could end up getting so successful.

Also, notice he called a female police officer "sugar t its". Adding misogyny on top of anti-semitism.

Apart from being anti-Semitic, which makes it unwatchable per se, The Passion is also a very bad movie, it's so amateurish! The only good film about Jesus Christ is and remains Pier Paolo Pasolini's "Gospel According to St.Matthew", that is in fact a true work of art.

He's is just going to use alcoholism to get his way out of this, and then everyone will say what a good man he is to stand up and admit to being a drunk to the publicl. Alcohol only ever makes you say things that you really think anyway.

About the passion, I saw that and I liked it and I'm definitely not anti semitic. I don't necessarily believe that the movie was correct but it only followed what the bible says (I haven't read the bible) and I don't believe that the bible is factual anyway. I don't even know if I believe in Jesus, religion is just something I can never make my mind up about. I do know that most wars are due to religion though, and that its a huge cause of trouble.

You don't have to be an anti-Semite to like the film but it IS an anti-Semitic film. Not only did it promote the Jews-killed-Jesus myth (dangerous anti-Semitism that can encourage hostility toward Jews) but it also portrayed some Jewish characters in the manner of negative stereotypes of Jews. All in all it was a powerful encouragement toward anti-Semitism. And now after what Gibson has said I think one can say it's obvious there was anti-Semitic intent behind the film.

I know somebody Jewish who got given trouble in school being told "You killed Jesus". I bet a lot more Jewish kids have gotten that since the film. But anti-Semitism includes stuff a lot more serious than that, like people being killed just for being Jewish. And anything that promotes anti-Semitism promotes that stuff.

I definitely do believe that Mel Gibson is anti semitic, I wasn't sure before, but after this there is no doubt about it. But everyone will forget about it soon enough, and they'll make him out to be a some super guy for fighting alcoholism. I can't believe that he is saying that he doesn't really believe what he said, if he didn't think it then he wouldn't have said it. Not only that, from reading that article on what happened, he seems like a complete prick, going on about how he owns malibu and calling the female officer "sugar t1ts. I don't think I could watch him in a movie after this.

An article from two years back:

Boston.com / News / Boston Globe / Opinion / Op-ed / Does Gibson deserve the 'Passion' backlash?
