Maria Teresa Thiersten Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry .. Whew!

Found this on Snopes . It's two separate articles, I guess...

Claim: Teresa Heinz Kerry donates millions of dollars to fringe political groups through the Tides Foundation.

Status: False.

Examples: [Collected on the Internet 2004]

By Paul R. Hollrah; Former STATE REPRESENTATIVE, DISTRICT NO. 8, OK

Maria Teresa Thiersten Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry was born in Mozambique, the daughter of a Portuguese physician, and was educated in Switzerland and South Africa. Fluent in five languages, she was working as a United Nations interpreter in Geneva in the mid-60's when she met a handsome young American, H. John Heinz, III, who worked at a bank in Geneva. He told her his family was "in the food business." They were married in 1966 and returned to Pittsburgh where his family ran the giant H.J. Heinz food company.

He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1971, and in 1976 he was elected to the first of three terms in the United States Senate. Senator H. John Heinz was a friend of mine - not a close friend, not a golfing buddy, but a friend nonetheless. The last time I saw him alive was, oddly enough, in the men's restroom at the Maverick Steakhouse, a favorite nighttime eatery and watering hole for politicians and lobbyists in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The senator was standing at a wash basin, drying his hands, when I entered the room. When he turned and saw me he rushed toward me, threw his arms around me, and said, "Paul, it's good to see you!" All I could do was mumble, "Senator, do you really think we should be seen hugging each other in a men's restroom?" He didn't think so, and neither did I, but we shared a good laugh over his impromptu display of affection.

Several years later, in 1991, he was killed when his plane collided with a Sun Oil Company helicopter over a Philadelphia suburb — the same helicopter that I often used to travel between Philadelphia and Washington, DC. The senator, his pilot and co-pilot, and both of Sun's helicopter pilots were killed. He was survived by his wife, Teresa, and their three young sons.

Four years later, after inheriting Heinz's $500 million fortune, she married Senator John Forbes Kerry, the liberal junior senator from Massachusetts. She became a registered Democrat and the process of her radicalization was set in motion. Heinz Kerry is not shy about telling people that she required Kerry to sign a pre-nuptial agreement before they were married. John Kerry may not have check-writing privileges on the Heinz catsup and pickle fortune, but he is certainly a willing and uncomplaining beneficiary of it.

A lot of hard-earned money, made through many years of hawking catsup, pickles, and soup, has fallen into the hands of two people who despise successful people and who believe in the confiscatory redistribution of wealth.

So how does Mrs. Heinz Kerry spend John Heinz's money? Just one example: According to the G2 Bulletin, an online intelligence newsletter of WorldNetDaily, in the years between 1995-2001 she gave more than $4 million to an organization called the Tides Foundation. And what does the Tides Foundation do with John Heinz's money?

1) They support numerous anti-war groups, including Ramsey Clark's International Action Center. Clark has offered to defend Saddam Hussein when he's tried.

2) They support the Democratic Justice Fund, a joint venture of the Tides Foundation and billionaire hate-monger George Soros. The Democratic Justice Fund seeks to ease restrictions on Muslim immigration from "terrorist" states.

3) They support the Council for American-Islamic Relations, whose leaders are known to have close ties to the terrorist group, Hamas.

4) They support the National Lawyers Guild, organized as a communist front during the Cold War era. One of their attorneys, Lynne Stewart, has been arrested for helping a client, Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, communicate with terror cells in Egypt. He is the convicted mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

5)They support Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Rights Action League, and the Abortion Action Project.

6) They support the most violent of all homosexual action groups, ACT-UP.

7) They support the "Barrio Warriors," a radical Hispanic group whose primary goal is to return all of Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas to Mexico.

These are but a few of the radical groups that benefit, through the anonymity provided by the Tides Foundation, from the generosity of our would-be first lady — the wealthy widow of Republican senator John Heinz, and now the wife of the Democratic senator who aspires to be the 44th President of the United States.

If voters will only try to imagine a woman such as Teresa Heinz Kerry, the fairy godmother of the radical left, laying her head on a pillow each night just inches from the President of the United States, hopefully they will decide that the only way these two will ever be allowed into the White House is with an engraved invitation in hand.

As I recall that somewhat embarrassing chance meeting in the men's restroom at the Maverick Steakhouse in Harrisburg, instead of mumbling some inane nonsense about getting caught in a friendly embrace, I wish now that I'd had the good sense to whisper in his ear, "John! Go home! Get a lawyer! Change your will!" But, of course, we didn't know her then, did we?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following is a brief background on Mrs. John Kerry . She hates being called that, by the way: Maria Teresa Thiersten Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry. Married Senator Kerry in 1995. She only took his name eighteen months ago and she is an "interesting" paradox of conflicts.

If you thought John Kerry was scary, he doesn’t hold a candle to his wife! Maria Teresa Thiersten Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry was born in Mozambique, the daughter of a Portuguese physician, was educated in Switzerland and South Africa. Fluent in five languages, she was working as a United Nations interpreter in Geneva in the mid-60’s when she met a ”handsome” young American, H. John Heinz, III, who worked at a bank in Geneva. He was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1971, and in 1976 he was elected to the first of three terms in the United States Senate. A Republican, he wrote a burning diatribe against some of the causes backed by young House member John Kerry.)

Several years later, in 1991, he was killed when his plane collided with a Sun Oil Company helicopter over a Philadelphia suburb. The senator, his pilot and copilot, and both of Sun’s helicopter pilots were killed. He was survived by his wife, Teresa, and their three young sons.

A lot of hard-earned money, made through many years of hawking catsup, mustard, and pickles has fallen into the hands of two people who despise successful entrepreneurship and who believe in the confiscatory redistribution of wealth.

So how does Mrs. Heinz Kerry spend John Heinz's money? Just one example:

Aiding and supporting our enemies is not good for America, regardless of your political views.

If voters will open their eyes, educate themselves and see the real Teresa Heinz Kerry, they will not appreciate her position as ultra rich fairy godmother of the radical left. They will not want to imagine her laying her head on a pillow each night inches away from the President of the United States.

Hopefully they love this country enough to decide that the only way these two will ever be allowed into the White House is with an engraved invitation in hand.

Instead of deleting this, pass it on. Let everyone know these people are unfit to represent this great nation. The uninformed will never hear the truth from the press, who wants Kerry elected!

Those who buy the Kerry facade, beware what you vote for — you may regret that you got it!

Origins: According to Heinz Endowments President Maxwell King:

In recent weeks, The Heinz Endowments has been accused of using its funding of the Tides Center of Western Pennsylvania to advance a laundry list of partisan causes and fringe political groups. This accusation is simply wrong.

It originated in an opinion column written by a researcher for the conservative, Washington, D.C.-based Capital Research Center. The crux of CRC’s argument is that money directed by the Endowments to Tides is "fungible." By supporting projects through Tides, CRC alleged that Heinz has secretly funneled money to every other organization that has ever received funding through Tides Center and the separate Tides Foundation.

Since first being published in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, CRC’s accusation has been picked up and expanded in opinion pieces in a number of newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and the Washington Times. But not even these publications have leveled this allegation in actual news stories.

The reason why is obvious: The charge does not stand up to objective scrutiny. Four facts undercut it completely. First, by legally binding contract, every penny of Heinz’s support to Tides has been explicitly directed to specific projects in Pennsylvania. It cannot legally be redirected and is the exact opposite of fungible.

Second, the Tides Center is a provider of management and administrative services, and we have used it only for those services, not to advance Tides’ grantmaking agenda. Foundations from all across the country-many, like Heinz, with strong centrist agendas-use these services to incubate an array of nonprofit programs. So does the federal government. It is no more accurate to suggest that Heinz supports every one of these programs than it is to suggest that someone who contributes to a specific group through the United Way supports the agenda of every other United Way beneficiary.

Third, the projects we have supported through Tides speak for themselves. They include programs to test the career readiness of area high school students, protect Pittsburgh’s environment and retain young people in our region-hardly an extremist agenda.

Fourth and finally, information about every one of our Tides-related grants is and always has been readily available in our public filings, annual reports and here on our web site. Far from being secretive, we have been consistently open in detailing the nature of our grants to Tides and every other organization we fund.

Who knows what's true and what isn't .. Although I would not be particularly surprised if this were found to be true .. I really don't think very much of her at all.

Anyway I just found it to be interesting reading.

If Teresa were really such a radical lefty, I doubt she would've been able to hide it all those years when she was married to Senator Heinz and was Republican.

That said, I like her. She's amusing. She speaks 5 languages. That's cool.

Ah..the Republicans loved the Heinz money when John Heinz was alive and now there's something tawdry about it.

Should we talk about how Laura Bush ran a stop sign when she was 17 and killed a high school classmate? Gee...should someone who did that be sleeping next to the President of the United States?

I'll take Teresa over Stepford Laura any day.

you do that.

Personally, I think it's low to bring that up. It was an accident that i'm sure she's probably tortured herself over every day since.

It's called sarcasm..and pointing out hypocrisy. It's enlightening to learn more about Teresa Kerry but a low blow when Laura Bush is examined. I'm surprised no one has said that Hilary Clinton was really behind the accident.

Joking and being sarcastic about Mrs. Kerry's supposed misuse of unds and being sarcastic about Mrs. Bush's accident are two different things. one is political and is fair game and the other is not political and is below the belt.

It depends on your political outlook as to whether that article about Heinz-Kerry was fair game.

For the record I wasn't being sarcastic about the automobile accident. I was being sarcastic about what some consider fair game for discussion and how it ties into being whether you are a Republican or a Democrat. The different set of standards that apply in the political world.

The Kerry article is all conjecture and what Bush did is a fact.

As others have mentioned, when she was married to Senator Heinz, nobody questioned her. Now she's a democrat, she's all of a sudden a terrorist loving, baby killing monster.

And then, when Laura Bush's accident or President Bush's THREE arrests (one for drunk driving) are brought up, its a low blow.

Strange.

I said nothing about Bushes arrests. I'm just saying that it makes me sad to see you draw that kind of comparison. Like what Laura did has anything to do with politics.

Let's just say that this is all true about Theresa, just for argument's sake - that has nothing to do with accidentally killing a classmate. I'm not implying it isn't a horrible thing that she did, or even that it should be completely written off because it was an accident, but that said, it WAS an accident. I don't remember the last time I mistakenly donated $4 million to someone, nor did I mistakenly do so without really checking into where my money was going.

The point of this wasn't to point out that Theresa is Satan. But it certainly wasn't about pitting her against Laura - I didn't even bring her up.

Regardless of whether this is true or not, I still don't like Theresa, and it has nothing to do with John Kerry. If she was Theresa Thierstein Simoes Heinz-BUSH, I'd still think she's rude and inappropriate. As a potential first-lady who should be respectable and a role-model, I think telling someone to "shove it" is a little classless. You can argue she's honest, and that I appreciate, but still, she's pretty tacky.

The first part of your post was a smear job against Teresa. If you read it that the author is trying to imply that she is a baby-killing terrorist like Lexis said. Don't forget that she supports that homosexual activist group too. And....drum roll please..she's all of these things and she may be sleeping next to a President. The horror of it all! Go Bush/Cheney!

Of course you didn't bring up Laura Bush..the object of this thread was to discuss the failings of Teresa Kerry, wasn't it?

You can't expect to present a controversial picture of Teresa on a political discussion board and be surprised when people object to it. You can't be surprised when the subject of Laura Bush and her actions being deemed off limits by the right is seen as hypocritical by the left. If you don't want to hear the other side then maybe these types of posts should be on the Republican thread.

If Teresa's character is fair game then so is the character of Laura Bush.

Fine, lets! I hardly see how that accident has ANYTHING to do with Laura's character! It was an ACCIDENT!

Amanda Writing in caps is equal to yelling. My hearing is just fine.

If you can't handle reading something that doesn't paint a positive view of Laura then just scroll by my posts.

As I was told when the threads about the Swift Boat Veterans appeared...we have to discuss both sides of the issue. That's sort of why we're all here, isn't it?

Writing in caps can also emphasize a word.

You were the one who just said that both characters were fair game so I'm saying let's have it. I want to hear you make one claim against her character that shows she is anything less than a wonderful, strong woman.
