I read this earlier and it's just so scary to think that you're not safe on a bus with your family going across country from things like this. It makes me really feel like you can't trust anyone since you never know if the person sitting next to you is going to try to kill you. It's disgusting.

People here are angry that he has been charged with second degree murder and not first. It's second because they have yet to prove that it was premeditated; if they can prove it, the charge will be moved to first.

With his lack of remorse and not talking to anyone, he will be undergoing pyschiatric evaluation soon, but first the judge is giving him a time frame to aquire legal counsel. If he doesn't by the deadline, he will undergo the evaulation and trial will proceed.

I'm also angry with the second degree murder charge, clearly the man had something in mind, why bring a hunting knife on the bus to begin with? And he only moved seats just before the murder happened, it's not like he flipped out and went after the person beside him, he put thought in it. Out of all the people on the bus, to do this to the person sitting in the back row, while he was sleeping. It's just sick, and he deserves the worst life can hand him.

This happened about 50 miles from here and people are in shock that something like that can happen so close to home, a lot of people are saying that the cops should have shot him down, claimed self defense, sure it would be unlawful, but really after what that man did, I don't think a single person would bat an eye.

It's all so shocking, mostly for how random it was, you'd think some thing like this could happen if they had known each other, or had words on the trip, but nothing. The worst part of it all, was that he was so close to home, within an hour he would have been back in Winnipeg getting off the bus, and meeting up with his family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

This story really freaked me out. You just never know ...

.
I don't think that they should have shot him. There's clearly something underlying the grotesque nature of the crime. He's obviously deranged to the extreme. But if he died, they could only speculate as to what his motive was. Moreover, IMO, there's a chance that this guy has done this before on a more secretive level (i.e. unsolved murders). It's definitely a possibility seeing as how it's hard to believe that someone just carves up, decapitates, defiles, and consumes a person's flesh just on a whim.

I agree that the law enforcement people need to take all the time they need in assessing and dealing with this horrendous crime and the sicko who perpetrated it.

The idea that he may be connected to heretofore unsolves crimes would make sense to me.

The sheer scope of the horror of this crime also leads me to wonder as to what it will take for this country to realize that their policies for handling severe mental illness are clearly not working. We keep putting people back on the streets for lack of rooms in hospitals when clearly they ought to be in padded rooms for the rest of their lives. That has to stop. It has to stop now. It should have stopped before this happened.

But, yeah, whatever's off with this guy (whether he's even faking it all), I think law enforcement need to take their time with this one. Do it right. Be thorough. Dot every i and cross every t, you know?

Oh, agreed.

But, see, my thinking is more along the lines of, "Oh, so you want to die? Well, how about you don't, then?"

Seriously, though, someone should sue the government for reparations on this case. Because it seems increasingly clearer that a young man was brutally and viciously murdered in the name of some loony tunes psycho wanting to commit suicide by government. Which leads me to, once again, wonder what it'll take before the government understands that their severe-mental-health legislations are NOT WORKING!!!

Just because the passengers saw it, doesn't mean it was pre-meditated. The investigators need to find evidence first to see if it was pre-meditated, then if they do the Crown will seek first degree charges.

Now, this... just makes me sick.

I definitely hope this will be a wake-up call for the government now (or soon-to-be).

And honestly, that's why I don't want him to get it. Make him suffer for his crimes. The poor victim's family is left suffering and he gets what he wants and is released from whatever demons have been plaguing him. Nah. Let him suffer in prison for his crime and let him actually feel sorry for it.
