| Man kills himself 'over Bush re-election' Huh. Some people take this a tad too seriously. Quote:
Man killed himself 'over Bush re-election'
A MAN who shot himself at the World Trade Centre site in New York was apparently distraught over the re-election of George Bush as United States president, a newspaper reported yesterday.
The body of Andrew Veal, 25, of Athens, Georgia, was found yesterday inside the off-limits site, said Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
A shotgun was found nearby, but no suicide note was discovered.
Mr Veal worked in a computer lab at the University of Georgia and was planning to marry.
"I’m absolutely sure it’s a protest," said Mary Anne Mauney, Mr Veal’s supervisor at the lab. "I don’t know what made him commit suicide, but where he did it was symbolic."
The lab’s director, James Bason, told the New York Times: "He was a great worker, and he did a great job for us."
Mr Veal’s mother said her son was upset about the result of the presidential election and had driven from Georgia to New York, the president of the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association, Gus Danese, told the newspaper.
Police were investigating how Mr Veal entered the site of the World Trade Centre, which was destroyed in the 11 September 2001 attacks.
The site is protected by high fences and is owned by the port authority.
