| Man Gets Jail After Shooting Himself http://www.click2houston.com/news/3527800/detail.html Man Gets Jail After Shooting Self In Groin POSTED: 10:05 am EDT July 14, 2004 SHEFFIELD, England -- David Walker is adding legal insult to injury. He's been sentenced to five years in jail after shooting himself in the groin with a sawed-off shotgun. The 28-year-old Englishman stuffed the gun in his pants after drinking 15 pints of beer. The prosecutor told the court Walker had gone home to get the shotgun after arguing in a pub with a lifelong friend about whose turn it was to buy a beer. As he was returning to the pub, which had closed by then, he accidentally fired the weapon. Walker told officers in Dinnington, England, he was so drunk he had no idea how he managed to shoot himself. He was sentenced Tuesday after admitting to possession of a prohibited firearm. The judge noted Walker's injury, but said the five-year prison stretch is the mandatory minimum. Copyright 2004 by The Associated Press. So he tucked a .22-caliber pistol into the waistband of his denim shorts. But he left the hammer pulled back, and the gun went off, shooting him in the left buttock. Drew Patterson said at first, he didn't feel anything. But about 30 seconds later, he felt a burning feeling, followed by something warm trickling down his left leg. That was blood. Now that he's recovering, he said it "hurts fiercely." Doctors told him to keep walking to avoid complications as the wound heals. Patterson said it was "one of my most embarrassing moments." | Yeah, an institution would be much better for him. He's not a criminal, he's mentally unstable. It's weird how one can get a jail sentence for self inflicted injuries... | |||
