Man Charged With Murder After Allegedly Stabbing Pregnant Wife

(2/01/05 - Houston) — A father is charged with capital murder for the death of his son who lived just 30 minutes after being born. Police say Geremy Segrest stabbed his wife in the abdomen, which punctured the baby while he was still in the womb.

It happened Friday night in Wharton. Relatives tell us Ashley Segrest, 20 is recovering in the hospital from her injuries. They admit she's having a tough time coping with the death of her newborn -- a baby boy she named Graham. He was delivered prematurely during an emergency C-section. Alive at the time, he reportedly died just 30 minutes later. Geremy Segrest, 19, has been charged with capital murder in connection with his son's death. He's also facing two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police say Geremy stabbed his wife, who was six months pregnant, in the lower abdomen during a domestic dispute. He then fled the scene and was caught by authorities a short time later. We spoke with Ashley's aunt late Tuesday. "She's just in a lot of pain, a lot of remorse," said Sheri Peery. "She understands a little bit, sometimes she'll understand, but sometimes she keeps asking for the baby. She calls out the baby's name. "Even though this is a capital murder case, the Wharton County district attorney is not sure whether he'll seek the death penalty. Police say Segrest is no stranger to trouble. He bonded out of jail last December in connection with an accusation of aggravated assault and felony criminal mischief. That case has not yet gone to a grand jury. Segrest was also on probation for several misdemeanors, most of which involved alcohol.

It's what happens with alot of teens and pregnancy. They're so afraid of having to take care of a kid that they'll do anything to get out of it, even if it means killing the kid or the mother. It seems that alot of them still don'tudnerstand that if you have sex there's a chance you're going to have a kid.

Surprisingly or not, this reminds me of the Laci Peterson case. Except that the woman didn't turn up dead...

Still...if you're expected to be a teen parent, the least you could do is either accept or leave them but don't go running off killing or beating the lights off of the baby or the teen....Jeez
