Kerry does have a problem of flip-flopping on some issues and that was one of my biggest gripes with him during the primaries. But in a head to head with Bush there's no choice as to who I want to win the election.

Besides I think he will make an effort to reach out to US allies who have been cast aside because of this whole Iraq war mistake. Some good will come out of that hopefully.

Could any of us sit through the whole of Bush's press conference last night. He never answered a question directly but went on and on about his character, his virtue, his resolve, blah, blah, blah.

No idea when the US can leave Iraq, no idea who will govern the country after 6/30, rambling on and on about how he couldn't think of a single mistake that he had made in his Presidency (but that doesn't mean he didn't) and again demonizing his detractors by saying that some don't think that brown-skinned people, or Muslims can govern themselves.

His supporters are going on and on about how honest and resolute he was but I don't think I've ever seen a more bizarre performance by an American President in my life.

personally, i forgot it was on but it didn't really matter because i was out anyway. but from what i have read, he didn't seem to know what he was talking about which really isn't all that surprising.

I can never watch his speeches. It's like when you watch the auditions for "American Idol." You see someone make a total ass out of themselves and you can't bear to watch them do it so you just have to change the channel. You feel embarassed for them!

I didn't watch any of it, but my sister listened to part of it on NPR on her way home from work. She said she eventually changed the channel because he was making her mad.

Random side note: Is it just me, or does it seem like some people on this board really hate Europe? I can't help getting that feeling sometimes when I read through threads.

Bush's speeches are always so boring. Even when he's talking about something important - something that would normally hold your attention - like the war in Iraq.

He's just so damn monotone. And yet they say Gore was the one without charisma. Bush just sort of wiggles his eyebrows, smirks and ploughs on in that dull voice of his. I think he does it on purpose, so no one has the energy to stick around and listen to him while he talks about what a worthless leader he's been and how far into the muck the US has been shoved because of him and his politics.

Strange, isn't it? Always, Europeans are anti-Semitic, they're anti-USA, so on and so forth. Very unnecessary. People can't have a difference of opinions anymore? Just because some of the posters have openly criticised Bush/Israel's policies don't make them monsters.

It's just easier to hate than to try and understand differences not to mention tolerate them. I don't understand people who see the world in such a cut and dry fashion. If every problem in the world was so easy to solve then it would have been done a long time ago.

You know after seeing Bush mumble and stumble in his press conference..I just felt sad. Sad that the leader of supposedly the only super power in the world can't string two sentences together on his own. He needs a speech writer to do it.

I think it's really unfortunate how easily the term "anti-semitic" and "anti-american" are thrown around on this board. It seems like arguments always come down to either one or both of them lately.

I have a friend that's in Iraq now, he posts frequently in his online journal and I thought I'd share the latest of his entries with you guys (his grammar isn't the best, I apologize):

Im being serious, why are the troops that they are supposively so proud of, the ones that their lies effect the most? wasnt rumsfeld quoted numerous times as of saying "no more than 365 days, boots on ground ", from what i get from that, that means NO MORE THAN seems to me that that means there could potentially be less. why is it now then, that we are being extended for an additional 120 days? why also cant he admit that is a lie? i guess when you're at his importance in our government council, you no longer lie . now you "go back on your commitment "
>isnt that illegal? if i set a plan, for example, im a big corperartion, and i agree to sell my product at a certain cost for so much, within a certain time, and i break that deal, arent i in the wrong? or how about marriage? dont i take a vow? so when i get married, im not gonna "cheat" on my wife, im just gonna "go back on my commitment? and that is right according to our government, well, atleast for key figureheads, right?
> i should of been out of the army may 15, but that got extended to july 1, sure it sucked, but i moved on, now im being extended again, now i have to refigure all my college im signed up for, along with many other things, ive been in iraq for 355 days to date, is wanted to get out of the army when i was supposed to, to carry on my life, asking too much? actually, im not even getting out when im supposed to, i'd just be happy getting out the second time they told me, but it seems that isnt going to happen either.
> what im asking is that people write our congressman, use my name, maybe it'll have a more dramatic effect if names are used, who knows, let them know how messed up it is, not just for me, but countless other people as well,if someone dont open their eyes to whats really going on, then who will?
> also, unlike the news reports you constantly hear back home on the news, troop moral is NOT high, i have never seen so many depressed people in one group in y entire life, everyone i talk to hates the fact that this is going on, but when it gets reported up the chain of command, they dont want to tell thwe people in charge of them how it really is, because it makes them look bad, not really even bad, they just dont do it for some reason, and it keeps going up the chain, and by the time it gets to the conference room, where the reporters get all their information, it seems that peopel are not only happy to be here an additional 120 days on top of the 365 , but that they'd love to do more if possible, the media is a brainwashing tool, and the governmebnt knows it, people always believe what they see on t.v., and thats the way they like it, becuase if people think that we are here for a good reason ( wich we're not ) , then they'll support the government in its decisions.
> and one final thing, i saw on t.v the other day, Pres. Bush was quoted as saying "i dont believe i made one mistake in the war effort", maybe its just me, but i believe that to be one BOLD statement, where are the weapons of mass destruction that we swear were here, but no-onme has seemed to found yet? oh, thats right, america forgot because the news stopped reporting it.
> maybe its just me, but im tired of being lied to, and someone has to open the eyes of american public!
> everyone write/email anyone and everyone this, get the word out, and write/email your congressman or anyone else you can find to email in politics.
> do your part to make the truth known!
>
(I have his permission to copy and paste this, he wants as many people to see it as possible).

The WMD are still big news in the UK.

I don;t think Tony Blair will be getting in because of the lack of them next year,

The Bush admin has tried to cover up the wmd and the bodies coming back home.

Bush would make any old Cambodian dictator proud.

I don't know if anyone still watches 60 Minutes. Last night I did and Bob Woodward talks about his new book which describes the lead up to the war in the Bush White House.

Here's the link: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/...in612067.shtml

If any of this is true then Bush scares me more every day. There's no reason to think that some of Bush's comments were taken out of context since he agreed to talk to Woodward for the book.

This is the excerpt that troubles me the most:

Quote:
Did Mr. Bush ask his father for any advice? “I asked the president about this. And President Bush said, ‘Well, no,’ and then he got defensive about it,” says Woodward. “Then he said something that really struck me. He said of his father, ‘He is the wrong father to appeal to for advice. The wrong father to go to, to appeal to in terms of strength.’ And then he said, ‘There's a higher Father that I appeal to.’"

Beyond not asking his father about going to war, Woodward was startled to learn that the president did not ask key cabinet members either.

”The president, in making the decision to go to war, did not ask his secretary of defense for an overall recommendation, did not ask his secretary of state, Colin Powell, for his recommendation,” says Woodward.

Bush is a madman, and it just confirms it.
Seriously, I always thought he was as fanatic in his speeches as the islamic leaders he's trying to denounce, but in the case of Bush it makes me shudder because he's the leader of a powerful democratic nation.
