After 4 years, I'm finally at 500.

That list is awesome, I'm printing it out.

I made the mistake of watching part of a Fox show last night - Hannity and Colmes. John Dean (the guy who brought down Nixon in Watergate) just wrote a book critical of Bush and Iraq. Well besides the fact that Hannity (Conservative) was having kittens over the fact that Dean wrote a book that was "critical of Bush" was how shrill and reactionary the media conservatives are becoming. From what I saw yesterday their reactions are becoming unhinged and truly bizarre.

From listening to him I guess there is no room for dissent against the government unless it's pre-authorized by the Republicans. Dean asked him why he was so afraid of political dissent. Of course Hannity was just chanting his mantra of "you're damaging the President" and not listening..it was so pathetic it was actually funny. He reminded me of how little kids complain to their mom when an older brother or sister takes away their favorite toy. I even think his lips were curling up in a pout as he repeated his charge.

From the way the Republicans/Conservatives react to criticism of Bush I wonder if this is a democracy or a dictatorship.

Sean Hannity is a dick anyway, I try to avoid him as much as possible. We were just talking about how big of a jackass he is in class yesterday.

This is starting to be dangerous when people who criticize a government are assimilated to anti-"something good" (like the country or the notion of democracy) or "something bad"-lover (like the terrorists yada-yada) by the same administration. It is even more dangerous when the same administration managed to convince half a country of it.
And to think that Americans are so proud of their freedom of speech.

I did a speech on why Bush sucks, and one of my main points is his even said "Either your with us, or you're with the terrorists." That is completely unacceptable...but all the people in my class are Bush lovers (they don't know a thing), so I was bashed pretty good for it.

Hey, I live in Canda and I saw a clip of one of Bush's speeches. He said that "there is no neutral ground" and I am deeply offended because I am Swiss as well. I think that he should choose his words more. And I think that it is very dumb that they are saying that the terrorsts won because of the Spain election. It has been said many times that they changed governments because of the way that the old government handled it. Uch, I hate it how they change everyhtng around to make it sound like terrorists are the problem for everything, but they are not. They are bad though, dont take me wrong.

Bush is just someone who's not intellectually curious (his own admission) so he just looks for simple solutions to complex problems which is one of the reasons we have this huge problem in Iraq now. Jon Stewart from the Daily Show calls it the Mess in Mesopotamia.

LOL..Monday night Stewart had this actual clip of Bush talking about the June turnover of power in Iraq. I tried to find it online but basically Bush sets another world record for saying "uhm" in one sentence and he doesn't even make sense. Something like we're working on it but it's not an entity yet. Then he finishes it off with one of his smirks.

Anne - even in an established democracy like the US you still have to be vigilant about preserving free speech if you're against the ruling party. If you dissent you get so much "crap" thrown at you it's amazing. If the Democrats do win the White House again I wonder how Republicans would like being constantly told to not dissent because it only means they hate America.

ceilirose this is really sad. And totally wrong. You know, if I follow their simplistic logic, I could say whatever bull**** I want. Like : they attacked a Muslim country, therefore they are Muslim-haters.
But I guess it's easier for Hush and his administration to defend his cause if he convinces everyone else that people against his cause are evil or whatever. Didn't you know that we French people ate frogs while playing poker with the terrorists?

Well, Howard Stern's been fired. While we may not agree with his potty mouth, I think his firing is a new benchmark in the current war on 'indecency' being arbitrarily waged by the FCC.

I haven't been to this board or this thread in a long time (for obvious, personal reasons I won't go into here).

That said, I'll try and keep my points civilized and non-inflamatory... But I will not keep them "poltically correct" because...

Quite frankly, in the most simplest terms and the most convenient definitions...

This country is in deep ***** and what's happeing to the rest of the world as a result is also not politically correct no matter how many spin doctors on CNN or FOX news try and spin it and convince us otherwise.

And before you say, "Duh! Tell us something we don't know!" the reason I'm bringing up the obvious is that it worries me that your (not mine) fellow Conservative Right Wing brothers and sisters who also post on this forum use titles like "We're Taking Over the World" and "Join us Now Or Work For Us Later" all in jest because to them... It's just some "game" or joke... Isn't it?

Well it's not.

What's going on here and abroad is far from a joke. Period.

And frankly...

I've had enough of this version of "America" as I am sure you have as well.

However the bright side to all of this is that since "they" made their big push...

People have had enough and are going to finally push back (hopefully) during the next election and get this country back on the right track it was headed with it being a true, shining example of what a real democracy is and what being a real American is all about:

-Strong economy (jobs, real tax cuts for families, surplus, real healthcare plans)
-Strong Defense
-Real civil liberties (not false or denied ones)
-Progressive domestic and foreign policies
-Real environmental laws
-True separation of Church and State (no Religious Right quarter-backing through the President)
-A real democratic, electoral process that WORKS again
-A strong, respected leader in the World Community (not shunned or stigmitized)

I look forward to that day when I can be proud to call myself an American again and believe in the real ideals that I was tought America stands for and not the current twisted, warped, upside down versions we have now.

Accept it. America isn't free any more.

Check out Howard's response on his official website:

Plans exist for the declaration of martial law at the drop of a hat and for the cancellation of fall elections this year.

And, of course, what usurpation of democracy would be complete without Rush Limbaugh weighing in? "Do [the terrorists] bide their time and wait, or do they try to replicate their success in Spain here in America before our election?" Limbaugh asked, before revealing how "titans of industry," and "international business people (who do not outsource, by the way)" were "very, very, very concerned" that one true party forever rule the Fatherland.

"They all were seeking from me reassurance that the White House was safe this year, that John Kerry would not win," Limbaugh said. "Who do you think the terrorists would rather have in office in this country -- socialists like those in Spain as personified by John Kerry and his friends in the Democratic Party, or George W. Bush?"

Saying that a pre-election terrorist attack is not a question of "if" but "when," Limbaugh concluded that should anyone but Bush occupy the White House, the terrorists will have won. [RushLimbaugh.com]

Given the bizarre mind-melding between the government and media and the Soviet-style propagandizing that's been taking place, one has to wonder: Is there is any significance in the fact that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and David Brooks are all beating the same tom-tom? As former White House insider Richard Clarke recently told Jon Stewart, "[There are] dozens of people, in the White House. . . writing talking points, calling up conservative columnists, calling up talk radio hosts, telling them what to say. It’s interesting. All the talk radio people, the right wing talk radio people across the country, saying the exact same thing, exactly the same words."
Rush Limbaugh is so full of himself isn't he?

That quote was my favorite part of the article..great link Enigma.

Is Stern going to be off the air completely or just off of the Clear Channel network? His demeaning of women basically nauseates me ("take off your shirt so I can see your breasts") but it's a sad day when this kind of censorship happens. I'd feel the same way about Rush losing his job too for political or social censorship. Well maybe not too sad because he's such an idiot but it wouldn't be right.
