Spain's new socialist government, the one the right is busy demonizing, is going to legalize same-sex marriage!

That's pretty brave of Zapatero to do that in such a Catholic country. It will be interesting to see how that works out..here's hoping for the best.

In keeping with idork's idea of having a good laugh (great cartoon BTW) the following is courtesy of dailykos - the link is

Howto: Talking to the GOP
by badger
Fri Mar 19th, 2004 at 05:16:15 GMT

At our local Dem Party meeting tonight, the PCO (Precinct Committee Officer) related a story about talking to the GOP. Keep in mind this is an extremely Republican area, and thanks to our PCO, we're just beginning to build a Dem Party organization here.
He went to a local Home Show this past weekend. The GOP had a booth set up manned by volunteers, and he wandered over to see what they were up to. The following exchange took place:

Diaries :: badger's diary ::

GOP: Are you a registered voter?
PCO: Yes.

GOP: Do you vote?

PCO: I've voted in every election since I was old enough.

GOP: May I ask your party affiliation?

PCO. Sure. I learned about politics a long time ago - about the same time I learned to drive. That's when I learned that 'R' makes you go backwards and 'D' makes you go forwards.

GOP: <Stunned silence>

That's my contribution so far to the political process: he got the line from my wife who got it from me, and I got it from someone here or possibly at Eschaton (I believe the original setup was "Voting is like driving:")

I wish I had kept the name of the person I got the line from. Thanks - whoever you are.

My wife added tonight: N is for Nader - no matter how hard you try you're going nowhere.

LOL..the new word now is "appeasement"..pretty soon all of us here are going to have to wear a big red "A" just like in The Scarlett Letter.

Quebec has legalized same-sex marriage! http://www.365gay.com/newscon04/03/031904queMarry.htm

I hope I don't sound like a broken record in here, talking about same-sex marriage issues all the time. I just think these are exciting times for liberals/progressives in this area. It's one of the few areas where we're advancing at the moment.

I went to a memorial lecture for the Madrid train bombing victims today. 2 professors spoke and then we had a Q & A. One guy became irritated because the professors called Bush's foreign policy "clutzy" and other similiar adjectives. As one of the profs put it, "clutzy is perhaps being too kind." We had a minute of silence followed by the traditional Spanish clapping.

"Clutzy is perhaps being too kind." Too true.

And yay @ Spain for legalizing gay marriage!

Is it Bush's party's new favourite word? (I'm surprised. It's a rather long word : a-ppea-se-ment. Do you think after the pretzel, he'll choke with his own saliva over this word?)
I was starting to wonder why I met this word like three times in other threads today.

Yeah..it's a long one but probably easier to pronounce than strategically or nuclear (which he can't even say correctly) so that's why he's using it. Who knows..Bush & Co give their orders to their cronies and then the media gets flooded with certain words or phrases that everyone picks up.

Did you know that those of us who are against Bush are no different than the terrorists? Yes it's true.. and it comes from the Bush reps who flood the TV shows supporting him. Don't reply with a reasoned explanation to your critics..just call them names and then wonder why the US is so polarized between the left and right.

I can imagine that. We, poor Europeans that were against the war in Iraq, are considered terrorist-lovers or terrorists-protectors, while we've all been fighting against terrorism way before Bush knew how to spell 'appeasement'.

Hah, that rings true. I was actually told over at media-something-can't-remember-the-letters that people who hate Bush love and admire Saddam and Franco. If that's how the right views things, no wonder they're so hysterical about all of this - they're walking around thinking that the rest of the world supports dictators!

I have a very sinking feeling that he's not leaving the White House this time. I hope the hell not.

Amen to 'appeasement'. Sick to death of that word.
