Law Would Force Movie Theaters To List Correct Times

Posted: 11:01 am CST February 28, 2005

Springfield, Ill. -- Don't you just hate it when you get to a movie theater on time, only to sit through a bunch of previews and commercials?

He is proposing a law that would require theaters to list two starting times. One for trailers and commercials and the other for when the movie actually starts.

He said the real starting time is important information, especially for parents who have to arrange for baby sitters.

Theater owners don't like idea of dual starting times, fearing people won't be in their seats for the trailers.

Franks admitted his issue isn't of the earth-shaking variety. He said he won't fall on his sword for it.

geez, is it that bigger deal to sit through some ads ?

I know tonnes of people who get there 5-10min after the sceduled time, in order to miss the ads/previews... isnt it just logical, if you dont want to sit through the ads, get there a little after the scheduled time ?

although it annoys me when people do that, and then whine when they cant find good seats...

Ehh, I don't mind the trailers so much. Now, I could probably do without the commercials right before the trailers, but like Jen said, it's not really that big of a deal to get there like 10 minutes or so after the start time.

I love the previews in a new movie, they are a huge part of the experience for me... I see no point in two starting times...

This proposed law seems pretty unneccessary to me.

Everybody knows that the movies don't start right at their listed times.

That's stupid. And anyway, I love previews! The commercials suck, but...deal with it. Or just show up a few minutes later, since everyone knows the movies don't start at the time printed.

And then peopel would gripe about paying more for movie tickets...because I would assume that showing trailers and commercials is ione way the theatres/studios make money?? And don't give me that babysitters crap. 10 extra minutes is NOT that big of a deal. Some people just want to whine about anything and everything.

There is always at least 5 minutes of previews/commecials.. Just wait 5 minutes and head on in.

It seems like a waste of time. I like the previews too..the more the better. If I want to know how long it will be then I usually just look at the next showing and figure accordingly. It's not that big a deal.

I kind of agree with the duel starting times. I hate getting to a movie thinking it's going to start at a certain time then it actually starts like 30 minutes later.
1 or 2 previews are fine but it IS getting a bit rediculous.

30 minutes? The most I've ever had was probably 15 minutes and usually it's more like 10 minutes. I HIGHLY doubt they would show 30 minutes of commercials and previews. It's possible but I really doubt it.

I don't mind the trailers but the commercials are another thing. If I wanted to see a bunch of commercials I would be at home watching TV. For example if the movie starts at seven why not show all the previews 10 to 15 minutes before the movie starts. Then that way the film will actually start on time.

I love the trailers, the movie would be almost pointless without them. Though, the commercials do a get a bit overplayed, I like the fact that they allow you time to go buy snacks or use the restroom.

The only commercial I've ever had an issue with is the friggin' Fanta one, with the Fantanas. That was way overplayed.
