Texas is expected to get slammed too. Man, I hope it doesn't head their way.

I hope this turns out alright.

And, if it doesn't, I hope the Administration has learned its lesson in how to cope with the aftermath of situations like these...

Reports say that this will likely be a category three. That's really bad. I remember when Andrew slammed South Florida back in 1992, it took months and months just to get back on our feet. We lost millions in property damages. The best thing the people in Louisiana can do is board up and get out. They're not nearly ready to even deal with this type of storm. I wonder if Bush will be contacting the investors there to see if they need some compensation or a bailout if any major businesses go down.

But Louisiana is still too fragile to deal with any more right now. And with the Gulf of Mexico right there, Gustav has plenty of time to build up strength. This is so sad.

Man, I hate to think of what could happen there. I just hope that no one gets hurt, because that's what matters most.

People getting out alive really is what matters most, and I totally agree with that.

But the damage a hurrican can cause can also be crippling.

Obviously, if you're alive, you count your blessings. But houses and furniture and all of that... it adds up. It can make the difference between struggling every day and living well.

I still can't get over the fact that Bush stood back and allowed investors to take these people's homes and turn a profit while these people had to go elsewhere. He's a piece of work this guy. Anyway, I have a bad feeling that this hurricane is going to be just as bad as the last one. With the Gulf of Mexico there, that's all this hurricane needs to build in massive strength. I wonder if those new levees will even hold. I think Louisiana has done all they can to prepare at this point.

I am thinking of everyone in the gulf. I have quite a few friends in LOLA/Mississippi and Texas as well. My thoughts and good vibes are being sent out!

Yeah, I have some friends in Texas. I hope everything is OK, but I know it's going to be rough. I don't think I could live there with the risk of losing everything every hurricane season.

I always think about that at times like these. How could people live in such places? I don't think I could ever do it.

To all of our posters from Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas - please stay safe and you'll all be in my thoughts. I'm in Louisiana myself, so it's a pretty scary time.

I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the Hurricane Gustav warning zone. And I'm a Katrina survivor. It's stressful waiting to see what will happen.

We live in these places because our families and our friends are here. We live here because it is home. I love my Mississippi even though sometimes it is a hard place to be.

Although New Orleans was the main focus of news when it came to Hurricane Katrina, Mississippi was much harder hit. Our entire coastline was "slabbed" (meaning that all the homes were completely demolished) and some small towns are gone. It saddens me that Mississippi has been so much left out of the news picture.
