A female student teacher at McClatchy High School has been arrested for statutory rape after police found her in a car with a 16-year-old boy.

Margaret De Barraicua, 30, (shown at left) is accused of having an ongoing sexual relationship with the boy who is a student in her class.

Authorities said De Barraicua was arrested late Saturday afternoon behind Leonardo Da Vinci Elementary School in the Hollywood Park section of Sacramento. Police responded to a report of a suspicious car parked behind the school. When officers arrived, they found De Barraicua having sex with the student in her car while her two-year-old boy was in the backseat.

De Barraicua was charged with one felony count of statutory rape. She has been released from the Sacramento County Jail pending trial.

De Barraicua, who was taking part in a paid internship at McClatchy, is on administrative leave during the investigation.

The boy was in De Barraicua's special education class, but police said it was not clear why he was placed there. "He appeared to have all his faculties, spoke very well, so we're not certain what that means," said Sgt. Justin Risley of the Sacramento Police Department.

Michelle Spurlock lives next door to De Barraicua and her husband. She expressed shock at the news her neighbor had been arrested. "It would've never even crossed my mind she was capable of doing anything in that realm," Spurlock said.

What is up with all these teacher-student sex scandals lately? We started talking about this specific case today in one of my classes, because this school is within our school district. I know a few people who attend this school. A lot of the students and staff of the school are still recovering from a shooting that took place back in 2003. So many things have happened to that school within the past few years..

I can't believe someone can do something like this, especially in the presence of a 2-year-old child.. What has the world come to?

Gross!! What the heck was she thinking with her CHILD in the car while she was having sex with another CHILD!!!!

Uh well, perhaps after she gets out of jail she can secretly break her bail, have some more nookie with a child, get pregnant, go to jail, come out, get pregnant and get engaged - Why do all of these woman think this is normal!!!

Well, I think it's kind of wrong to have her kid in the backseat while she was doing that but since the police don't really know what's going on or why the kid would be doing this w/ her then I hav enothing yet to say about it

I don't think it is a matter of them thinking it is normal as much as it is human nature. We want what we can't have. If it's taboo or "wrong" in societies view then it is even more of a rush when we do it and damn the consequences.

It'll continue to happen till the teachers convicted of it start getting the hammer dropped on them. Show all the teachers that it won't be tolerated and it should atleast slow down. That teacher in Florida is claiming that she's mentally unstable which could potentially get her less time. I say screw that and give her everything you can for doing this. Stop playing around and hand down really hard penalties for this stuff. And then make sure the media makes a big deal out of how much time the teachers are getting.

I guess students are becoming the new trend for teachers. I'm sure there are a lot of pyschological reasons behind so many people trying out this "relationship", and I wonder if they do it just because he/she is a student/teacher or because they actually like the person. Not that it matters, it's against the law all the same. The thing that appalls me far more than a sixteen year old and a thirty year old getting it on is the fact that her child was in the backseat. That's just so wrong.
