Global Warming ~ Its Coming

I wasn’t able to check out the board, to see you guys already had a thread for this topic. If you guys do have a topic already, could you post the link to it on this thread for me. I really want to discuss this topic with you guys. Also, I hope this is the right board for a topic like this. So here I am, and hopefully I can post on other threads on this board too

I don’t think that I have posted with any of you guys before, so I think a little introduction would do good to start things off. I’m 17 years old and my birthday is in February, I hope that I’m not the youngest here. I’m in my last year of high school and I want to do something with Law. This particular issue has a lot to do with Science and Weather. So you should know that I am not good at Science, so please bare with me. Another thing is that sometimes my spelling and grammar is bad. You should also know that I’m Canadian and I live in South-Western Ontario

I was never good at Science, and also never interested in it. But the Space unit in grade nine was okay, but I wish we spent more time on that. I also found the weather unit interesting; I guess I was interested in how our environment works. The thing that caught my attention was when we discussed “Global Warming”, and Greenhouse Gases. The whole fact about how our environment might go away, because of our development. Anyways I had forgotten about that after the course was finished

That was until I later on in my years, but earlier this year I had heard about a movie dealing with the issue. The thing was, I think it had a different cause for the “global warming”. When I was taught about it, our teacher said that the world’s temperature is going up. So, that would make the ice in the north melt and it would flood towns. The movie had the same thing with the melting, but it said that it would be another “Ice Age”. So, I think either theory is possible

I’m pretty sure you guys know which movie I’m talking about. I only just saw it 3 weekends ago. The movie that I’m talking about is Day After Tomorrow. I hope that most you guys saw it, because I would love to talk about that movie. Also, about the theory that its talks about. I hope that we can talk about it, because it’s a movie. And there is a thread for it, over on the movie board. But on here its not just going to be about the movie. I hope that we can discuss other things that have to do with the issue.

It wasn’t just the that got me back interested in this topic, I have noticed something about our (Canadian) climate. The past few years, I have noticed that there has only been two major seasons. It seems that we get six months each of summer and winter. I’m not sure if any of you have noticed this. I have always known Canada to have four seasons. Also this past summer has been weird. Its like we have both summer and spring together, the weather changes to often.

Oh goody, the global warming to be blamed on man and pollution despite the fact that the end of the last ice age ten thousand or so years ago was also global warming and there were no cars, no factories, no pollution. The world acts in cycles. Besides, it's been shown that the world is actually reparing itself from the damage we have inflected upon it. Something about how trees actually eat dangerous gases from the atmosphere or something. i don't exactly remember now since it was something I heard in passing but oh well.

if you actually look at the reports most scientists say that they don't even know WHAT causes holes in the ozone layer b/c they haven't studied it long enough. over 20 years they've seen holes open and close themselves for no apparent reason.

also they've found that we're in a cycle where the sun is closer to the earth. which could entirely be the reason that we're experiencing slightly hotter weather.

do i believe that we have some pollution and waste issues in teh US and world? absolutely. i yell at people that litter. however i also believe until there's sound scientific proof that more than 1/2 of the scientific community aggrees w/ it's crap.

It doesn't seem to be a good idea that I opened up this thread. Is there going to be a discuss about it or are we just going to debate. It seems that people don't think that its are fault for the warming. Anyways, I'm going to post my little intro in the opening post. My guess is that you guys are just going to talk about that, and how I'm wrong

Technically since you're posting your opinion in a public forum you open yourself up to all types of argument because we all aren't going to have the same opinion and just because I don't think that humans have that much to do with global warming, yes we are accountable for pollution but pollution might not have a direct link to global warming, doesn't mean that other people won't agree with you. Also, a discussion and a debate are not very far apart. If you want people to agree with you on everything then I suggest finding some ecological website and posting this on one of their forums.

No, I don't want everyone to agree with me. I just want to hear different opinions, so lets get the talking going. I'm just posting a new opening post, so given me a few minutes and then you can read that one. And give me your view of it

Don't worry. Some people are just bitter and like to automatically attack people who have different points of views. ...not that I'm an "angel" either, but I'm feeling especially mellow today. So it's all good...

Some scientists believe that Global Warming is happening. Some don't. Though I seem to remember that more of the prominent and more well respected ones seem to believe in it.

Firstly, I was going to type up my opening post on Thursday. But deicded not to, so hopefully I can get it done today. I really hope that can help get us in a discussion about the topic at hand

Secondly, I don't think that I have put my view on the topic here yet. I think that "Global Warming" is happening, slowly. I think that we as humans have a part in the matter, but not a huge one. I don't think that our part would change the world, but other parts do. The sun moving closer to us, and whatever caused the first "Ice Age"

I loved that movie, and that got me starting to think about this issue. But I'm not that afraid, I don't think that it could happen like that. Barely a warning

Note I updated the opening post for ya
