Gay teen expelled from high school...

Oh my...

Quote:
So with the best of intentions James, a talented web programmer, started My-Boi.com. It went off well, and three months later he had over fifteen-hundred members. “I have personally received countless e-mails from teenagers who are experiencing what I was nine months ago, and say that this site helped!” Three months later, things changed.

A snoopy kid at school told several heads in the administration that James was gay and ran a gay-themed website. He was called into the office and grilled about the site and his sexual orientation. After the discussion James asked the principle repeatedly not to inform his parents. “I again emphasized and I explicitly said, 'I am 18, I reserve the right for my parents not to know and I do not want them involved.'”

What happens next?

“The first people I see to walk in the door are my mother and my father. This is where I bury my head in my hands and don’t really know what to do, how to respond – I for the first time in my life have never felt that betrayed and first time I’ve ever been speechless.” The principle took it upon himself to out his student. “They tell my parents “I am struggling with homosexuality.” My mother broke down in tears, my dad wasn’t particularly thrilled…”

If this wasn't enough they took six days to decide to expel James from school, citing 'immoral behavior and supporting an immoral cause.' “The reason for expulsion and the suspension is the fact that what I have done/am is a Class A offense. I am not given a chance to appeal to honor council, it’s “too sensitive”;”

Wow. So this guy managed to keep his sexual orientation to himself all through school, not bothering anyone at all. Someone finds out tells the school and they kick him out?

I don't agree with this but if you read the comments with that link then this kid was going to a strict Christian school. They may or may not have rules in regards to homosexuality in it's students. It sucks but until there's more info then the school may have some legal standing but certainly not any moral one IMO.

That being said though he started the site off-campus so he may have some standing there. It's certainly sad and outrageous that it happened though. I'm more upset that the administration made the decision to out him to his parents.

They probably said some stupid thing like the website was pornographic or something stupid like that. Although I don't know what pisses me off more, the fact that the kid got expelled or the fact that the principal outed him to his parents. It's pathetic and if I was that kid I wouldn't stop until I had every single school board member's paycheck for the next six months.

Wow! Ok...I don't exactly agree with homosexuality, but that's just plain dumb. I can't believe that someone would get kicked out of a school for being gay, geez.

I agree. It does suck, but until we know more, we can't really say that the school had no right to do that...even if it was completely wrong.

Since it's a private school, it may be legal.

Does this really surprise anyone considering where our country is at right now?

I don't know if its really surprising, but its definetly disturbing. I remember after 9/11 all the news reports were reporting how America was coming together no matter their race, sexual orientation ect. Now its as if none of that ever happened. Do we need terrorist attacks for people to realise to treat everyone with proper respect?

that is one of the most crappiest things that i have ever heard of. What kind of reasoning is that to expel someone? I don't care if it was a private school or not, that's just wrong.
