Gay adoption - a right or a moral sin?

There has been a lot of talk about gay rights and such on this board, and I find them very interesting. So I wanted to bring up the question - do you think gays should be able to adopt? Why/why not? I think they should. They are just as capable of rasing a child as straight people.

Gay people should definitely be allowed There are so many children who need parents out there, and gay people have just as much love to give a child as straight people do.

I agree. Gay couples should be allowed to adopt. They would not give their child any less love than a straight couple would.

It's absolutely a right.

But, first and foremost, I wish it wasn't necessary when the couple uses a surrogate or a sperm bank. The cases where one parent is biologically related to the child, but the other one isn't yet was there the whole time...

Gay couples should be allowed to adopt. And they should also be allowed to have second-parent adoptions.

With so many bad parents out there, and so many children in need, the idea that someone should not adopt simply because of their sexual orientation which has NOTHING to do with how they will raise a child is ludicrous.

Right! But many people see that a child can only be raised by straight married couples. And that is wrong.

Especially when there are so many other familial structures. Children raised by grandparents, single parent families, aunts, uncles.

The idea of the nuclear family is the ideal in our country but it is not the standard. Whether or not you want the ideal isn't the point, it is recognizing the fact that not everyone can or want that ideal.

A right. Not just for the to-be parents, but for the children. They deserve a loving family in any capacity.

This is a tough one for me. I honestly don't think a gay couple adopting kids is wrong. However, I do believe that children should be placed with a loving mother and father before they go to a gay couple. A child could miss out a lot of experiences if both parents are of the same sex.

Well, the child will miss out on having a full time mother or father since both parents will be of the same sex. Personally, I wouldn't want a child to miss out on having a mother and father. That's just me though, different strokes for different folks.

You just said the same thing as you did in the original post. What's so important about having a mother and father and what specifically would they miss out on?

I think it should be a right, yes. Because I'd rather see a child raised by loving parents of the same sex than raised in a asylum where it usually hasn't got any form of "parents".

Yes, but as far as I know, the other parent wouldn't get the same rights as the biological father, right? I heard that in some cases, the companion wasn't even allowed to take up the kid from school or visit it in the hospital!
