Free Zach

Quote:
Recently, a sixteen year old guy from Tennessee named Zach told his parents he was gay. After saying that there was something wrong with him, and that they had raised him badly, they decided to send him to "Love in Action"- a sadistic anti-gay camp, to which gay males are sent, and told that if they don't change their ways, they should commit suicide.

Unfortunately, these types of places are legal, and Zach is not the only kid in this terrible ordeal. Thousands of kids are sent to this place, and other places like it. A petition is being sent to congress to try and help this situation. Nothing can be done without the support to change it.

What you have here are the parents of the year. Clearly they're doing something with their kids best interst in mind, right?

I've read about this on Daily Kos a few times already. Very scary parents.

It blows my mind that people in the 21st century believe that sending someone to a camp for a few weeks has the power to all of a sudden make them straight. They are only harming their son and I highly doubt things will work out well for this family.

There will be much more pain and heatache in the future because of the parents' intolerance.

While I have nothing against gay people (Seeing that I have some friends that ARE that), it's his choice whether he wants to be gay. Going to a camp to help him change his ways isn't going to change anyway. If this camp was meant for wanting to turn gays to being straight, thousands of people, especially adults should be flocking in by now.

Why does our country have to be P.C (politically correct) these days? Tyrants!!

It's like you're choosing what kind of lifestyle he should live by. A number of guys turn to a gay lifestyle every day.

No one chooses to be gay.

Did you choose to be straight?

I don't understand why some people can't except others for the way they are.

Seriously. This is just ridiculous.

Well no. There are possibilities of being born gay and not realize it. Of course, it's just from what I heard. I could be wrong.

But don't the same people who consider homosexuality immoral, think that suicide is immoral too? Though, I suppose they don't really care if a sinner sins again, but I think it would be "sinful" on their part to preach it. Then again, I don't understand any of their warped standards at all.

Meh, so I went and read the rules for the refuge, and this in particular stood out to me for it's oddness.

The clients may not wear Abercrombie and Fitch or Calvin Klein brand clothing, undergarments, or accessories.
I'm wondering why they listed them in specifics, excluding other popular brands such as Hollister. Is there something about these clothing companies? Well, I did a little research.

Fashion is the main source of gay youth ads, which predictably tends to sexualize and objectify them. Calvin Klein even created a campaign made to look like child pornography.
And that's from a GLBT web-site. So... it looks like nobody really likes Calvin Klein.

I'm thinking the A&F thing might have something to do with that controversial catalog they had awhile back, with the nudity.

This is just so sad. I felt so helpless reading his blog and i can't imagine what he must be going through. I read through the rules of the centre and it just sounds like child abuse to me.

I get so angry when i hear of people committing such atrocities in the name of religion.

What happened to unconditional love on a parents part? They'd rather lose a son completely than to have a gay one? That? Completely baffles me.

Lovely parents. . I just wish people would realize that no one choses to be gay. Honestly, whou would chose to be ridiculed like this? It's sick. I can't even believe places like this are legal. I'll totally sign the petetion.

I don't see how this could be legal? Commiting suicide is illegal and I don't see how a camp that promotes it if you are gay and don't would be protected under the law.

This is sick and sad.
