Paris had received about 10 threats similar to this one for the last couple of months.
Yes, no one is safe nowadays.

THis is getting more attention now because of the madrid bombings.

What is France's policy regarding fighting terrorism? Police/special forces work? Or educating/feeding of poor'er muslin nations?

I can smell sarcasm from North America.

Of course it got bigger attention after Madrid's bombings, but it always had been a security program here, called 'Plan Vigipirate' since summer '95.
And yes, police/special forces are working. They have been since '95 and that permitted to arrest 55 members of Al-Quaeda and prevent one major bombing and an attack against the US ambassy in Paris. But that won't impress the smug US, will it.
I don't know, maybe we should pick a country, say that there are WMD and attack it, to prove to the US that we are against terrorism.

Now that I said what I had to say...

I'm actually scared. I'm scared that they're going to place a bomb in a train again. We had been living this situation already with the bombings in '95 and I almost lost a member of my family in those bombings . The line that was bombed is the one I've been taking every freaking day for the past 10 years. And so do my father and my sister. It's the most busiest line so it's a perfect target.
But you know what? I'm not gonna stay at home. I'm gonna go to work and school, as I usually do, even if I'm scared. And that's courage. Can you hear that, all the people who've been criticizing Europe for 'giving in' and 'bowing'? We're not gonna change our way of living because of terrorists, and that's a fight already.

So I don't need anyone to ask me to prove that France or Spain or any other country in Europe has been fighting against terrorism, just because we didn't agree on Iraq. We are fighting the best we can, that's all I know. And if it's not enough for the US and all the Bush-supporters, then I don't give a rat's arse about it.

[/end of rant]

Just goes to show what happens to countries that support Bush and the war in Iraq, right?

Right?

You can go crazy all you want, but my question was a honest one, if you want to take it as sarcasm, thats fine. I am not looking for your 'justification' on what or what not european nations are doing to battle terrorism, I am honestly asking, what steps they are taking. I am curious to see what type of steps that european nations are taking.

Is it that you do not know? Or that you know, but you thought my question was a sarcastic one, so decided to give me this rant instead?

Are you so on the defensive, that you cant spot a honest question rather than a sarcastic one? If I would have put a smiley on there..or a wink, I would understand why you would be upset.

SuperDeluxe, I hardly believed your question was honest when the last question was about educating/feeding poorer Muslim countries, which seemed to me to be a sarcastic reference to the other thread's posts.

You'll excuse me if your intention was totally honest, but our past arguments and both our opinions on international politics and respective countries' policies (and also lots of resentments on both parts) didn't help catching the innocence of the question.

That said, I've kinda answered your original question anyway. 'Plan Vigi-pirate' is a security system that checks out all the public places to prevent an act of terrorism in public places. DGSE, the French intelligence, is working on any Al-Quaeda hints and the borders are closely watched. There's probably more, but that's what is usually done in case of terrorist threat.

Yeah really. Superdeluxe, no offense, but the way that you phrased the question was really just trying to incite a response. I won't make any judgements on your intentions because I don't know if you were trying to do that, but the way that it was written could VERY easily be taken as sarcastic.

I've read that France does have a fairly active police force, compared to the United Kingdom for example. A good book that covers the topic is The Base by Jane Corbin, a BBC reporter. Despite the source it's a quite examination of Al Quaeda. The last chapter isn't as well researched as the rest of the book, but is peripheral to the rest anyway.

Okay, then please tell me how I could rephrase it, so that it can be easily taken as sarcastic.

Thanks.

Nope. But I think we already knew Al-Qaeda attacks the West because they're opressed... And the ones causing the biggest opression are the ones who declare wars against the Arabic world... I think I don't understand a thing anymore, anyway.

Well if you want to keep it sarcastic, I think you've done a pretty good job with your original post already. No problem by the way.
