Five dead in apparent murder-suicide in Philadelphia

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- -- Five people are dead and another critically wounded in an apparent murder-suicide at a marketing firm in Philadelphia's old Navy Yard, police said.

Four people were found dead in one room of Zigzag Net, police said, and the fifth -- believed to be the shooter -- was found in another room.

Police also said another person was shot in the stomach and taken to a hospital.

The nursing supervisor at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital told CNN the hospital received a patient with a gunshot wound who is in critical condition.

Police are investigating the incident.

Tell me about it. An 18-year-old gunman also killed 5 today in a shopping mall in Salt Lake City.

What is it going to take for someone, somewhere, to wake up and realize that this isn't normal? I completely understand that carrying arms is deemed a constitutional right in the United States (The constitution actually stipulates for the armament of a militia, nothing more), but there is such a gap between gun violence in the U.S. and gun violence in the rest of the world... obviously something isn't working.

And I don't buy the idea that you can blame it on video games and music. There isn't a video game or a song available in the States that is somehow absent from Canada or the U.K. And yet we don't have that level of gun violence. And even if you went the "American population is ten times as big as that of Canada" route, the math is still not there. The proportion isn't there.

I never bought into that idea as well. Yes, we do put out violent entertainment but that doesn't mean we condone violence. Also, people are just looking at things to blame other than themselves. If you look, most of these people grow up in environments that are not suitable for anyone to live in and it warps them.

The Salt Lake City cop who single-handedly stopped that shooter was on the morning shows today. Turns out he was off-duty, having a Valentine's Day supper with his wife. And he brought a gun...

But, anyway, the point is that he "neutralized" the shooter before anymore people could be killed or injured. All by himself. While he was off-duty. Courageous.
