Filibuster in Princeton

As some know, I'm a student here at Princeton, and I thought I'd let you all in on something we're doing over here. We're staging a filibuster in favour of the filibuster and an independent judiciary. Whether it be Jon Stewart's "America", "Great Speeches in American History", "Green Eggs and Ham", or yes, even the phone book, a group of us students have been filibustering the night away (we're closing in on hour 26 now) - all in front of our Campus Center which was paid, and named, for Bill Frist.

All to say that we need to create a buzz. Call, write, or email your Senator. Call, write, or email other peoples Senators. Whether you're right or left wing you have to support what is an intregal part of our American Democracy. You also have to realise that if the Democrats are objecting to only 7 of 205 judges, those 7 have to be pretty bad.

Also, if you're a college student anywhere in the US try organising your own filibuster - if we keep working at it we can actually send a message to the Senate.

Good for you. I'm glad you're taking action against the power-drunk Republicans in Washington.

Great! You should have someone (or maybe a few people) read from the old Jimmy Stewart movie "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington". The perfect example of a filibuster.

Well we're at 72 hours now and still going strong - we've got volunteers up to Saturday night.

News for you that don't want to flip over to the other site:

1) If you watch Hardtalk (MSNBC) on either Tuesday or Wednesday night you'll see some interviews at Princeton - but don't be fooled by some of the College Republicans that may be there; they only came for the hour before the taping.

2) If you watch Inside Politics on Wednesday (I believe) you'll see sections of tape from some of us filibustering - including a segment by your's truly (I'm the guy with glasses wearing the Roy Williams Jersey).

Cool...I'll keep an eye out.

Anyway, I agree with the others. Getting invloved, no matter which side you agree with, is always a good thing.
