Yeah... My parents watched CNN and my mom came into my room, told me there was another Tsunami.. Well a big wave that hit the same coast again... It's even worse than the last time... I really hope that's not true, but I don't guess CNN tells something that's not true...

Since there haven't been any reports of a Tsunami yet, I changed the title of the thread so there'd be no confusion. If it turns out that there was a Tsunami, we can change it back.

Anyway...this is an AP news story from Yahoo! News.

Quote:

U.N.: No Tsunami Yet From Indonesia Quake

By NICK WADHAMS, Associated Press Writer

UNITED NATIONS - The United Nations had no immediate reports of tsunami from the major earthquake that struck Monday off the west coast of Indonesia's Sumatra Island, a U.N. official said.

Jan Egeland, the U.N. disaster relief coordinator, told a briefing there had been widespread panic in areas near the quake, which he said was a "great earthquake" and not an aftershock.

"The hard-hit population of western Sumatra have been again struck by a very large earthquake," Egeland said. "We do not have reports of any tsunami yet and we have also only limited reports of damage."

He said there were "unconfirmed reports" of deaths on Nias, a renowned surfing spot badly hit by the earlier quake.

Egeland said there were thousands of relief officials in the region, and they were ready to respond if casualties and damages were reported.

A massive 8.7 magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia's Sumatra island Monday and killed several people, perhaps dozens, but there were no immediate reports of a tsunami, residents and officials said.

So far 50 people have died.....still no Tsunami yet. The only good thing is that they'va had a some time to get somewhere if one hits, at least hopefully.

I don't think it'll be a tsunami, I'm hoping not. That's the last thing we need.

Until today the Indonesia's Nias island was known as a surfer's paradise for a fabled right hand break. Now the palm-fringed island which was at the epicentre of the 8.7 magnitude earthquake off Sumatra could well become a tomb for thousands of people.

The massive earthquake is believed to have killed between 1000 and 2000 people, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said in a radio interview on Tuesday.

"Roughly it is expected between 1000 and 2000 died," he told El Shinta news radio.
