Conservative/Right/Republican Discussion Thread

I figured it's about time that conservatives and Republicans get to have their own thread. This thread is for conservatives and Republicans to be able to post their stands and beliefs on issues without being criticized by liberals and Democrats. In this thread, you shouldn't have to defend your beliefs and opinions. The liberals and Democrats have their own discussion thread so I think conservatives and Republicans should have their own too.

Are there even any conservatives/Republicans still on FF?

Very funny. I guess I'm the only one. Fanforum should be "fair and balanced" when it comes to politics.

I'm Republican, but definitely not conservative.

I consider myself to be neither Republican nor Democrat - largely cause I live in Canada For me it depends on the issue - I'm centre-right on some things, centre-left on others. *shrug*

As for the party threads, I would just like to remind everyone that while these can be "haven" threads, obviously all the board rules still apply - no bashing of other posters, etc. As long as that doesn't become an issue, party threads are allowed.

Have fun, everyone.

Aren't there conservatives in Canada though? And isn't there a political party in Canada that is called like "conservative party" or something like that?

Yep, we have a Conservative Party, and our PM is a Conservative (with a minority government).

So Canada isn't as liberal as people want you to think it is.

Ooh, barely the first page and there's already bickering going on! I must be blind, I can't see where he said "those Democrats/Liberals." I see "by liberals and Democrats" and "The liberals and Democrats" but not "those." Ah, well.

Well, that largely depends on the region, I think (for example, Quebec is more left-wing than much of Canada, while Alberta is more conservative). Canada is more liberal than the U.S., I would say (measured by things like attitudes to gay marriage, abortion, etc). And there are always tons of factors specific to each election - for example, the Liberal party had just undergone a major scandal. It's choosing a new leader now (I know who I want - but that CERTAINLY doesn't belong on this thread, as he's a former NDPer! )

---------------------------------------
Just a quick reminder: Party threads are threads for people of a similar ideological bent to discuss things without feeling the need to write an entire essay defending their opinions to people of an opposite bent. As I said before, that does not mean they are havens where you can safely bash or ridicule others. Also, please stay within your own turf on these threads, as it were - no going into the Liberal thread to fight with them if you're a Conservative, for example (I would imagine occasional popping in, for example if you agree with the mood of the thread on a specific issue, is okay. If you would like to discuss a topic with a larger group after seeing a small discussion in a party thread, then go ahead and start a new thread for it. Have fun, all.

Hi Sasha. It's not a bicker but it's just in reponse to Jacob's comment when he posted:

I was offended since nobody "criticized" anyone unless you count just responding to something offensive that someone posted. Anyway, I've edited my post I made earlier.

The main reason why I made this thread is because conservatives and Republicans on FF deserve to have a thread where they discuss things without having to defend themselves. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that Republicans and conservatives are a minority on FF.

I am a Republican. And a Conservative.

I know others from F4F who also are, but just don't feel like defending their opinions all the time..

I use to post in the oooold thread we had, but left because some left wing posters would come in and agrue and debate inside the thread...ask things like,"How could you think like that?"
And the right was defending their opinions..

Maybe this one will work. I hope...

Bill O'Reilly was on Oprah's show today. I think he handled himself pretty well. O'Reilly is right in my opinion when he says that there is a liberal/left bias in the media.

It's nice to meet another conservative and Republican on FF. For a while, I thought I was the only one.
