| Colorado weighs proportional electoral votes Quote:
I live in NE too and didn't realize they did that system of giving the winner 2 votes and dividing the rest. I really like that idea. I wonder, have Nebraska or Maine ever had problems with their systems? The problem with the current system is that, if you don't vote with the majority in your state, your vote basically doesn't matter. | |||

| Exactly. Proportional representation is used all over the world and with great success (take THAT Ms. Atkinson), and nobody laughs at those countries for having that type of system or when there are problems associated with it. And even if there are problems, is she and her seemingly Republican friends so afraid of an actual representation of democracy that they're willing to stay put with an antique and outdated, winner gets all mode of democracy just to ensure that they'd win the White House? THAT'S something to be embarassed of, not the other way around. Generally, there are some somewhat okay arguments that can be made against proportional representation, but Ms. Atkison nor Mr. Owens or Mr. Halaby have presented them. "They warn that candidates will ignore the state and its nine electoral votes if the measure passes."?! ...I've heard better excuses made by grade 8ers than that. | |||

| I absolutely LOVE this idea. Speaking in terms of national elections (because EVERY vote makes a REALLY big difference at the state and local level) - people, particularly in states that almost always vote the same party, often feel like their vote doesn't make much of a difference. Not only that but candidates sometimes ignore states or take them for granted in their campaign travels because they trend one way or another. This is the fair way to go - to ensure that everyone's vote is counted and that everyone is truly represented in the election. | |||
