Colombia: Ingrid Betancourt is finally a free woman

This piece of news is kinda related to me, for I have Colombian family and heritage, so I decided to share it with you guys.

Unless you've been under a rock these days, you might have heard about the rescue of French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt that took place yesterday, product of a very clever plan developed by the Colombian government against the guerrilla. Also add in here 14 other hostages, 4 of them from the United States (and which, btw, are already in Texas by now)

In my opinion, this is a happy day for those of us who want peace in Colombia, and this is a huge step for defeating the guerrilla, who considered Ms. Betancourt the most valuable hostage they had. Kudos to the Colombian army who came up with the rescue plan!

I watched her arrival in France which was broadcasted live on the first channel two hours ago or so. It was very moving. She's extremely brave. I really admire her and I'm thrilled to see her alive and free after more than six years of captivity.

I agree. I think it sends a great message to all the people who want peace.

Yes, I also watched this on t.v. and this is amazing news. I am glad the hostages are back home with their friends and family.

It does cast in sharp contrast the sheer numbers of people who have been taken hostage and are still in captivity. But this is excelllent news. Hopefully, it's just one of those destabilizing events that helps topple the whole movement.
