childless couple told to try sex

man, the wonders religon can do to people...
http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_957945.html

Quote:
German couple who went to a fertility clinic after eight years of marriage have found out why they are still childless - they weren't having sex.

The University Clinic of Lubek said they had never heard of a case like it after examining the couple who went to see them last month for fertility tests.

Doctors subjected them to a series of examinations and found they were both apparently fertile, and should have had no trouble conceiving.

A clinic spokesman said: "When we asked them how often they had had sex, they looked blank, and said: "What do you mean?".

"We are not talking retarded people here, but a couple who were brought up in a religious environment who were simply unaware, after eight years of marriage, of the physical requirements necessary to procreate."

The 30-year-old wife and her 36-year-old husband are now being given sex therapy lessons while the university clinic undertakes a study to try to find out if there are more couples with a similar lack of sex education.

Okay, I find this really surprising... Sex is everywhere, TV, movies, books, magazines and, even if they have always lived in a really really reclusive environment, they have at least religious texts mention the act of procreation.
I wonder how they had imagined the way for children to be conceived...

Maybe the Stork theory?

But yeah, how has two people, even brought up in relgious environments, never heard about sex? As far as I know, sex is mentioned in the religious book for the major religions. I can understand to an extent that one doesn't know 'how' to have sex but to not know what it is is kinda ridiculous.

Maybe it is a good thing if people that oblivious don't reproduce. Sounds like they won't be contributing much to the world's gene pool.

The above comment is pretty harsh, but has a grain of truth to it.

It boggles my mind that not one, but both of them had no clue how children were concieved.

You've got to be kidding - do you really think adult people, who after eight years of marriage had no idea that sex was the means to reproduce, are going to be any smarter about raising children?

If they've been brought up to know how to raise children, then no.

Just because people don't know what something is, dosen't mean they're stupid. It is not their fault they were never told about sex. It makes them mindnumbindly naive, but not stupid.

Even people who were raised in the most conservative of environments must still have an idea of what sex is. Then again, I suppose lack of education can contribute to just how much people know.

Knowing how to have a child, and how to raise a child, aren't mutually exclusive.

Yes - raising a child takes knowledge and wisdom, having a child is nothing more than biology. Someone that was so ignorant of basic human biology can hardly be expected to be sensible enough to raise a pet let alone a child.

I'm amazed these people haven't heard anything about sex. I'd imagine that if you were that religious then it wouldn't be brought up, but totally clueless?

It's hard to believe because of the way the world is today.
