Child of Abuse Dies Horrific Death

This is another sad case of Child Abuse resulting in death...although I found it ironic that when I went to the Daily Rotten News Site to see the link to this article, its headlines were: Parents of the Year Nominees From Germany. I'm not kidding, here's the site where I first saw that link (You might wanna scroll down a little. It's under the Chimp article): http://www.dailyrotten.com/

HORROR DEATH OF STARVED JESSICA
Mar 4 2005
By Allan Hall

Link: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/tm...name_page.html

A GIRL of seven starved to death by her parents ate her own hair in a bid to stay alive.

Jessica Schmidt also ate pieces of the carpet in the darkened bedroom where she was kept prisoner.

She weighed just 21lb when she died. The family's well fed cat weighed 10lb.

The doctor who examined Jessica's body, Michael Tsokos, said: 'She died as a consequence of years of malnutrition. She was little more than a skeleton.

'She had nothing to eat and very little to drink for three months at least.

'Jessica lived in a room on the seventh floor with paper over the windows so light didn't enter.

'She was a prisoner and no one in her block of flats ever remembered seeing her. She would not have had the strength to cry, to speak, to bang on a wall for help.

'Her room had just a bed and a cupboard. There was not a single toy.'

Doctors found that Jessica had cut off some of her hair and eaten it.

Hair had caught in her intestines, causing her to vomit and choke. This was the final cause of death.

Jessica's mother Marlies Schmidt, 33, and stepfather Burkhard Moeller, 47, found her dead in her bed in Hamburg,Germany.

Police say the couple lived on social security and spent their money on alcohol and cigarettes.

Schmidt and Moeller are in jail awaiting trial for causing Jessica's death. They face up to 15 years behind bars.

Jessica was not registered with social services. Her natural father had not seen her for two years.
15 years only?!? My god what is the world coming too. The child died a horrible death for the love... ...well, since this is from the UK, maybe it's different there. I don't know.

What a horrible thing! I just don't understand how some people can be so cruel and just plain evil. I really think that people like this are posessed by demons because it's just so disgusting to imagine something like this. Not possesed like in the exorcist, but where their heart is so hardened and they have no conscience or feelings.

I agree that 15 years seems like a pretty light sentence.

So sad. If the mother hated her child so much, why didn't she give her to her natural father, or grandparents, or even put her up for adoption?

God, that's awful, in fact it's beyond awful. How could someone do that to their own child? These people should be locked up for life.

Not life, people like that should get the death penalty.

That is so sickening of them. Fifteen years is way too little, I do not want those two getting released and then pro-creating again and making another victim to their selfish whims. They should be sent to prison for life, they killed their own daughter in a painful and torturous way. It's just sick, and instead they spent their money on cigarettes and alcohol - nice, real nice. That makes me so infuriated.

Wow that is just horrible. I can not understand how a mother can do that to her own child. The parents defintely deserve more than fiften years. What that poor girl went through , that's just really sad.

Why wouldn't they get a life sentence? Is it because she died as a result of neglect, as opposed to directly murdering her? I know it's basically the same, and I wholeheartedly agree that they deserve a much harsher sentence, I'm just wondering what the reason is for only getting 15 years.

That's disgusting. Like Dev said, she should have given the child to another family member, or adoption. It's horrible when a mother has to give away her child, but to tell the truth, the poor girl probably would have been better off if the mother left her in the streets. Going out of their way to torture her is just ... unforgivable.

I live in Hamburg, Germany and I heard that they get 15 years and after that they are going to be locked up for the rest of their lives in an other institution, not prison. I just don't know what it means in english.

I just can't understand how people could do this to their own child. It's just cruel and I'm so mad at the parents and all the people who work for the social institutions and didn't do anything to save her. She wasn't going to school for months and nobody did anything about that. They should've known that something was wrong.

LIFE in Germany means 15 years. After that it will be checked if they could get back out into society as Louisiana explained right. I wouldn't bet on this though concerning the crime they did commit. Not to start a new death sentence discussion but I'm more than fine with our criminal law (yes, I'm german). In contrast to the ones "who are yelling for killing" here as it seems.

God, that was horrible. Like The Survivor said, they should of been put on death penalty. So cruel to do that to such a young child or any human for that matter
