This is the first time I can vote so I'm pretty execited. It's been really intersting watching the news reading the newspaper and just getting involved in the election and seeing what each candidate has to offer.

I'm not saying big government's perfect. I'm not saying there aren't a million ways in which it could be improved upon. I'm certainly not saying that it works all the time. But I do think it's got a better shot of getting it right than leaving it up to business interests.

But that's my way of seeing things. I don't have an issue with people who see things differently.

As for canvassing, I've never done any myself. I did polling, though. You know, asking people coming out after they've voted to tell you who they voted for so you can predict the results for that riding.

It did not make me want to do it again.
Yeah, I totally agree about a big government compared to a small government. It would probably be a very scary place if it were left up to business interests.

Did you get alot of people telling you to mind your own business when you did polling? Cause I assume that you'd get the odd person who considers voting a private matter who would tell you that.

RainbowChaser, I totally felt that way when I was finally able to vote. It's a great feeling.

Well, not everyone was willing to give out that information, that's true. But we weren't asking them to identify themselves and then say who they'd voted for. So, you'd be surprised at how many did spill the beans. Because the point of polling isn't to sway anyone or to compromise anyone. It's to predict an outcome. So it's pretty harmless. If incredibly awkward.

Also, in terms of the big debate. We haven't missed it, folks. According to the TV listings currently posted on ctv.ca for that channel, it will air a week from tonight (i.e. Thursday, October 2nd) at 9PM on CTV. Check your local listings, I guess.

Yeah, I can imagine how awkward it would be.

Thanks for the info about the debate. I can't wait to watch it and hear all the party's opinions about certain issues.

I think that's when the American VP debate is, too. Damn, I think they chose a bad date.

Well, we don't have oodles of time for debates up here. It's a bigger country and they have much less time for actual campaigning.

Plus, honestly, I think Canadians ought to know where their priorities are. I mean, sure, Americans can't sneeze without us catching a cold, but if we don't look to our own elected officials with more interest than we do the VP candidates to the south... I think we may deserve that cold.

Yeah, but they could have easily chosen another date. Why not Friday? I don't really understand why they chose Thursday. It's not a good idea, in my opinion.

More people watch TV on Thursday night than on Friday, though. This is an important debate. I can see why they would want it on a night where there's a halfway decent chance that people will be watching.

But that's the thing, I don't think many people are going to watch it because of the VP debate. That's why I think it was a bad idea. They could have done it on the 25th of this month (last Thursday) if they really wanted it to be on a Thursday. Though, I do think that people would have watched it on whatever day, just not when there's something as "important" going on.

I'll watch both, eventually, but I don't know what I'll be watching first/live. It's tough.

The problem is, the Canadian leaders debate will likely be boring to watch, a bit complicated with so many leaders involved, and you can always watch a summary of the highlights later. Whereas the US VP debate will be much more interesting, like a car accident - you know you shouldn't look, but you can't help it. It'll be like watching an SNL skit, but painfully real.

Exactly. That pretty much sums it up.

I don't know. I'd rather watch the Canadian leaders debate than watch the U.S VP debate. If it were the Presidential debate and the Canadian leaders debate on the same night, I might be torn but I don't really find the VP debate that interesting. That's JMO.

This debate might just be more interesting than the Presidential debate, though. Everyone seems to be looking forward to this one the most.

Considering how much more important it is to understand the candidates in our election... I don't know, call me weird, but it's not even a contest for me. I'd rather watch a tedious prime ministerial debate than the most entertaining gaffe-filled VP debate.

Not to mention that this is my life they'll be talking about.

So, to me, it's a no-brainer. Yeah, it's TV, but this one of them things that has nothing to do with the classical interpretation of entertainment value. The entertainment is in the impact these men and woman will have on my life.

I mean, I'm dying to find a way in which Harper doesn't deeply creep me out. And I keep hoping for moment where either Stephane Dion or Jack Layton says something that truly reflects their actual character and brilliance (I'm a fan of these men). I want to see if Gilles Duceppe will say something that makes any sense to me. And, honestly, I've never heard anything come out of Elizabeth May's mouth that didn't profoundly interest me.

So I am looking forward to this debate immensely.

I'm looking forward to it as well, but the same time, I have been looking forward to the VP debate for so long. As I said, I will eventually watch both. I just don't know which I will be watching live.
