CA Prop 8 Results?

Sorry to post a whole new topic about this... but I'm rather anxious to know the results as they are coming in on Proposition 8 in CA, and every news site, website, and even the CA government election site is totally overloaded with so many people trying to get through. As I don't live in CA, I unfortunately can't turn on the TV to find out. Does anyone live in CA or know of a less frequented site that has up-to-date info? I've got a lot invested in this one (emotionally). Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

While I'm at it, does anyone have any thoughts on this whole issue? I'm curious to know what the consensus is with others like myself (those who don't live in CA but have a vested interest in the issue of gay rights).

Right now those in favor of banning gay marriage are ahead. It's horrible. We pick a black president but we can't admit that gay and lesbian couples deserve the same rights as heterosexual couples. That's not final though. It's just in an article I found on google news.

Even worse Arkansas overwhelmingly voted to ban gay adoption as well.

The San Fran vote is still largely out in Cali, I'm hoping things tighten.

It really is quite horrible, isn't it? It makes me want to scream that this is even an issue. I just have to remind myself that people are growing and learning and becoming more tolerant every day. I'm certainly in a different place than I was four years ago, and even if this proposition passes, it will pass with a far smaller majority than it did 8 years ago. It will be on the ballot again and again until it sticks for good. If we look around over the last 50 years, people are becoming more tolerant, not less. This particular issue is taking longer than some (as is illustrated by our new president), but we're headed in the right direction. We just have to keep standing up for what's just.

*gets of soap box*

Anyway, thanks for the info. I hadn't thought of Google News... :-)

Yeah I just saw on CNN that the ban is winning. I hope that changes.

It takes time for things to change, but the tide has slowly been turning just the same. I can't help but be inpatient for it though, and I don't even live in Cali! Unfortunately, here in Pennsylvania, I have no doubt that a ban will pass resolutely over and over again, we have one of the oldest populations in the country. Florida's vote shouldn't surprise me as much as it does, because of their retirement population.

Try cnn.com as well, they have a county by county breakdown.

it's really ridiculous to me to specifically go out to try and take away the rights of a group of people just because you don't agree with their lifestyle. if you don't like gay and lesbian people then don't hang out with them. what difference does it make how someone else lives their life as long as it doesn't do any harm to you??? either way, it's not over... people will just have to ban together to overturn it.

Yep, looks like pop 8 passed, too... they counted 95% of the votes and 52% voted yes.

I think it's heartbreaking...the results. It's like...one step forward, a few steps back. Hopefully, we'll all get there.............eventually.

I'm very disappointed about the voting against gay rights in this election- it's a ugly mark on an otherwise progressive election for me. I just don't understand. I don't understand why people think like this.

Im happy with the ban. Its the way it should be. Marriage should be between a man and woman.

I dont have any problems with gay/lesbians, you do what you gotta do, but the sanctaty(sp) of marriage should be kept sacred and thats only between a man and wife.

I'm really surprised by this especially the fact that gay adoption was banned in Arkansas. I'm sorry but I have seen gay couples do a better job of being a parent and bringing joy to a child than some heterosexual couple who constantly neglect their kids and leave it to other people to clean up the mess. As someone who lives in Florida I voted heavily against the ban but I must say that it was worded very poorly on the ballot. It would've taken a rocket scientist to sift through all that mumbo jumbo.

With all due respect, it's the use of the word "sacred" that makes me disagree. "Sacred" is a religious term, not a government term. And what's right for one person's church or personal spirital beliefs may not be right for another. We are supposed to have the right to be free from any other person's religion imposing on us in this country. For example, as a Christian, I POWERFULLY believe that love is love. I firmly and emphatically believe that God has no more problem with two men marrying than a man and a woman marrying, as long as the love is true. I don't think being gay is a "choice"- it simply is, as God created that person. If I were to take every quote in the Bible literally, I personally think I'd be there for a very, very long time since the Bible contradicts itself a thousand times over. I don't fixate on every word of the Bible- I look at the message of Christ as I see it, as I FEEL it, and it's about unconditional love. Now, other people may disagree and that's fine. But it shouldn't be a factor in legal rights. It can be taken up in everyone's individual church, in every person's individual faith.
