As long as it's YOU blowing things out of proportions and attacking other poster's POV, it's fine and dandy but god forbid if it's anyone else, huh?

And for your information, my post occured simultaneously with hers and no, I'm not 'big ( ) enough to edit it. Deal. I'm not the only one here with inflammatory posts, but you didn't see those.</STRONG>
Whatever.

This thread was supposed to be about whether or not Bush and his Administration acted properly prior to 9/11 after the release of the classified August 2001 memo. It was never about anti-Semitism, Palestine, Islamic terrorists and such. Repeated requests to turn the thread back on topic were ignored.

Once again this whole argument which boils down to Israel=good and Palestine=bad plus labeling any critical statement about Israel as anti-Semitic just trivializes the seriousness of the issue.

In an effort to get somewhat back on topic, thought I'd post this link to the official site for the Commission:

National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States

It's got some good info, including archives of statements made by witnesses and panel members. As far as I can tell, it doesn't have actualy Q&A transcripts, but it has the statements that people gave before the panel.

I read Condi Rice's statement on the web page, and for some reason it bothered me a bit. Seemed like the statement was all about making it clear the Administration is compeletely blameless, there was nothing else they could have done, and all the subsequent response it a good thing. Instead of actually talking about the issue in a substantive way. That was just her initial statement before the commission though.

I haven't heard or seen the complete Q&A with Condi though. Does anyone have a link to it?

I've started a thread about Israel and the actions of it's government. Please take all related discussion there.

Here's a link to Q & A phase of her appearance before the Commission last week:

Rice Q & A Transcript

Like I've said before I don't think Bush could have done anything to stop the actual attack in and of itself. It's troubling that Rice and others have said that they couldn't stop it because they didn't have the time and location and well that's that.

I don't think we'll ever intercept an e-mail, call or other means of communication that states the next major terrorist act will be on this day and this location and will be sponsored by so and so. That's my one criticism of her and it's balanced by the fact that intelligence seems to be gathering all sorts of facts and information and then sifting through them to connect the dots.

It's party a public relations critique...yes you couldn't stop the 9/11 attack but say you've learned from what happened and this is what we can do in the future.

I just figured calling me (and every other European who doesn’t fall over with joy at everything Israel does) an anti-Semite was enough to make him look like a fool, as I am so obviously not an anti-Semite.

Now. I find it interesting when people say the Muslim terrorists simply hate us and don't want to understand us. It's possible they have reasons to hate us. Our complete and total support of Israel for one. Maybe how the President will get on TV and express regret and extend condolences to the families of innocent Israeli victims, but has never done the same for the families of innocent Palestinian victims? This is just one reason that people in the middle east may feel animosity towards us, they don't think we care anything about them.
Very true, I totally agree.

I think it's hard for people in Europe and the US to understand exactly how basic the belief of "USA hates Islam" is in the Middle East. They don't grow up with an unbiased view (neither do we, I suppose). So when the President says something they perceive as anti-Islam or pro-Israel or whatever, their prejudice about the US is just reinforced. So it's not that they don't want to understand the US, it's more like they think they already do. And I think, in a way, we feed into that by treating them like lesser beings. Not that they're worth less than us, but I think most Europeans and Americans have this image of the Middle East as not as advanced as we are and such. I think that pisses them off as well.
