Bush: Iraq war will be just a comma in history

Quote:
BUSH: Yes, you see -- you see it on TV, and that's the power of an enemy that is willing to kill innocent people. But there's also an unbelievable will and resiliency by the Iraqi people. Twelve million people voted last December.

Admittedly, it seems like a decade ago. I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq, it will look like just a comma because there is -- my point is, there's a strong will for democracy.
CNN.com - Transcripts

So in total 2,693 Americans have been killed in Iraq since it started and in just the last 2 months 6,599 Iraqi lives have been lost. But this all will be just seen as a comma in history? Even ignoring how absurd that idea is, its incredibly disrespectful to everyone fighting over there and especially to the people who've lost their lives and the families of those people (all the soldiers and Iraqi people).

Well, in my opinion, everything that comes out of this guy's mouth is pure stupidity anyway. He's a war driven individual and I'm not surprised that he's going to say killing tons of lives is no big deal. How about next Thanksgiving or Christmas he fly down to Iraq and see how it feels like to not be with family or to see that the person that used to sit with you at the dinner table is no longer there because you felt that they don't deserve to come home yet. Such an idiot.

Think about it though, Stalin himself said it. "One casualty is a tragedy, a million, a statistic." And it's very true. We knew the names and faces of the first several people killed in Iraq, now they're just numbers. I don't know why Bush is even talking about the war, he's a horrible politician and a the antithesis of any type of military intellectual. But alas, he is the public voice of the US...no wonder the world questions our sanity.
You know, I respect the position of President, and I will follow Bush and support him because of that, but I sure don't respect him as a person or agree with him on most anything.

He sort of out does himself each time he opens his mouth doesn't he? And not in a good way.

Yeah, I've noticed that. I cringe every time a public speech is scheduled because it turns out like some scripted sit com...Wait, Bush needs his own laugh track.

Doesn't he have any speech advisors though? Surely someone could've informed him that it priobably isn't a good idea to say something like this. This comment is as amazing as his comment that he's no longer worried about Bin Laden.

I found this comment quite funny:

The thing is that when Bush isn't in a scripted, tightly controlled situation it tends to be a disaster. A few weeks back he was practically sticking his fingers into the the chest of Matt Lauer of the Today show trying to make a point. His first debate with Kerry and his facial expressions and mannerisms were embarrassing.

I don't know that there's much his spin people can do when he has to answer questions off the top of his head. You can't script him all the time.

The Daily Show did a great feature on that. Especially THIS COMMENT

Quote:
Matt, it’s just you and me here. Matt, just for a second picture your loved ones dead–just do it for me. Are you picturing it? Are you? You got it? Is it in your head? Alright, now go vote
It's sad but often seem like the truth.

Thank goodness for the Daily Show. Last night they ended it with Katie Couric's comments to Rice about how hard it must be to get dates. With everything this country is facing we're all concerned about Condi's love life.

Please tell me you're kidding. Was this a news show? Seriously, who the hell cares about her romances?

It's true..

The transcript should be at cbs.com under 60 Minutes. It just aired this past Sunday.

Was that part of the Moment of Zen? I've gotta catch both the DS and Colbert on repeats since I missed them, especially Colbert since he had Arianna Huffington on his show.

But yah it's amazing that any show would seriously devote time to whether or not people in congress can find dates. For starts that's their personal life and with stuff like that I don't think too many people care. But more importantly as you said there's a war going on. A war that the person mentioned actually had a hand in getting the country in to. I think Courics show is the same one that has a segment called Free Speech and wouldn't let Bill Maher come on and talk about religion.

That was a big mistake and a poor choice of words. However, I am one of the few Americans that still supports the war in Iraq. Our guys can't leave there until the job is done. That will make the terrorists/insurgents feel that they have won. Bush gets slammed and bashed for this war in Iraq. There have been many Demorats and hardcore liberals who actually voted for the war and supported in the beginning. The Democrats love to complain and criticize Bush about this war but they offer no solution to it.

What is the job though? It seems like we've completely lost track of any kind of goal in this war. I mean is the job really to get rid of all the terrorist? Because if that really is the goal, then we're never leaving.
