Bush Claimed God Told Him To Invade Iraq

Bush claimed God told him to invade Iraq, Afghanistan: BBC Fri Oct 7, 4:42 AM ET

LONDON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush allegedly said God told him to invade Iraq and Afghanistan, a new BBC documentary will reveal, according to details.

Bush made the claim when he met Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas and then foreign minister Nabil Shaath in June 2003, the ministers told the documentary series to be broadcast in Britain later this month.

The US leader also told them he had been ordered by God to create a Palestinian state, the ministers said.

Shaath, now the Palestinian information minister, said: " President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God.

'God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan'.'

"And I did, and then God would tell me, 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq...' And I did.

"'And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.' And by God I'm gonna do it'," said Shaath.

Abbas, who was also at the meeting in the Egyptian resort of Sharm al-Sheikh, recalled how the president told him: "I have a moral and religious obligation.

"So I will get you a Palestinian state."

A BBC spokesman said the content of the programme had been put to the White House but it had refused to comment on a private conversation.

The three-part series, "Elusive Peace: Israel and the Arabs", charts the attempts to bring peace to the Middle East, from former US president Bill Clinton's peace talks in 1999-2000 to Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza strip.

The programme speaks to presidents and prime ministers, their generals and ministers, about what happened behind closed doors as the peace talks failed and the intifada grew.

The series is due to be screened in Britain on October 10, 17 and 24.
The White House is denying it but IMO it wouldn't surprise me if it were true.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Bush actually said that God told him to invade Iraq. From the beginning of time, many "leaders" have invoked God's name to justify the heinous act of going to war, so I can definitely see Bush justifying invading a sovereign nation without provocation because he felt that he was "doing God's will."

I think almost everything that comes out of Bush's mouth is bull s**t, but what a pathetic excuse for both a person and a president. Why in the blue hell would god tell him to invade innocent Iraqi's we all learned in Farienheight 911 that the Iraqi's never done anything to the US before the invasion. I don't think God is a facist.

Anyone who knows anything about basic religion knows that what God wants is peace and love and tolerance for one another.

My own spiritual beliefs tell me that God has never once "spoken" to someone and told them to kill and invade in his name. That's not God doing it people, it's something else entirely.

Bright Eyes said it best in "When The President Talks To God":

"When the president talks to God
Do they drink near beer and go play golf
While they pick which countries to invade
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?

This man is beyond belief. It's like a idiocy epidemic. Has he been snorting goof gas in McKeeseport, PA?

Bullwinkle for President! Frighteningly, it would be an improvement.

Jerry pretty much summed it up. People are always claiming the almighty power came to them in their dream and just start whispering "Redrum...red rum...red rum..."

I fear for the U.S's safety if Bush becomes a pastor after serving his term in office

Bush has said a lot about religion to make him seem like a holy guy so his approval ratings will go up. For example, he once told a reporter that he reads a Bible verse every day, and the reporter asked which he'd read that day. He said he didn't remember, so the reporter asked if he had any idea, and he said he didn't know. He also said he didn't remember what verses he'd read the entire month before...not even a lie! I'm pretty sure he doesn't know the names of any books in the Bible, so that explains him not lying. The point is that politicians are always saying God spoke to them or something along those lines. It's extremely amusing..
