Boy band members runs for Cincinnati Mayor

Quote:
(Yahoo! News)

CINCINNATI - Justin Jeffre, a former member of 98 Degrees, wants to be Cincinnati's next mayor, saying his love for his hometown and desire to make it better motivated his decision to run.

"I am serious about this, and I intend to win," Jeffre, 32, said last week.

Jeffre said he wants to bring people from all over the city together through Cincinnati's arts and entertainment venues and build a strong downtown.

"We need to sell this city back to the people of this city," he said. "We've forgotten how great this city can be."

He also wants VH1 to follow his campaign for a reality series. VH1 officials have said no decision has been made on his proposal.

Jeffre doesn't have a political affiliation and plans to run as an independent, his spokeswoman, Andrea Leslie, said.

Mayor Charlie Luken, the incumbent Democrat, has said he won't seek re-election.

Mayoral candidates officially run as nonpartisans. They face off in a primary on Sept. 13, with the top two vote-getters competing in the Nov. 8 election. The filing deadline for the primary is June 30.
Oh dear LORD is this hillarious. Well the former wrestlter was Governor of Minnesota, but a former boy band member mayor?

Heh, I sure wanna know what his platform would be.

Why not, he's no less qualified than anyone else to run. If he wants to do it and thinks he can do a good job then I'm all for it. He'll be submitted to a campaign like anyone else.

We've got a movie star has governor of California so why not? He obviously feels strongly enough about the city to get in the race - good luck to him.

It seems like he's got good intentions and passion, the only thing that worries me is his inexperience. As far a politicians go, he'd be considered young and he doesn't seem to have the same background. I don't doubt that he can make good decisions, it would just be sad to see him get easily swindled or manipulated by other politicians. Then again, it is just a mayor, not governer or senate.

If I were him I wouldn't do a reality series though.

If he says he's serious about it, why is he planning to do a reality show for VH1? It makes this whole thing sound like a joke. I don't take reality shows seriously and I think political campaigns should be serious.

i thought it was kind of funny at first, but now that i think about it, i dunno. it seems like he really cares about the city, but politics can be decieving. i think the reality show is a very, very bad idea. it makes it seem like he just wants media attention. you have to admit, it is kind of funny. but, if he really cares.....and it isn't to get media attention......then good luck to him.

Same here - mayor of a major city and controller of their budget as your first political experience? It can be done with the right staff I'm sure but ... I have my doubts about his intentions since yahoo is also reporting he is trying to sell it as a reality series of sorts. This is a major job with a lot of serious consequences and things at stake. Making it into a reality series like it is some kind of game ... well, I guess I'm just getting old, it annoys me. I am sure he thinks he can't win but what if he does? Scary.

Well, this *is* the city which elected Jerry Springer governor, so why not?

More than likely it was an agent or something that suggested the reality show and he just went along with it. Besides, it might be a good way to get more attention placed on his campaign.

I think it's funny, but then again if he wants to he can. Still funny however. Just as long as he does appoint his former boy band members on his council.

In all fairness, they elected Jerry Springer mayor *before* he was THE Jerry Springer. At that time he was just a potential guest with his bad checks BUT, on the other hand, that is what makes it so scary...they might really elect this random boy bander.

Hey, I like Cincy (go Bengals!), but they're weird politically ... from what I've read (which, granted, isn't much), they seem to usually vote Democrat when it comes to majoral elections (like Jerry Springer), but Bush won Hamilton county in the Presidental election, so who knows where they'll go now?

Yeah, Jerry Springer wasn't the man we know today before he was mayor. I would be more likely to support this guy if he dropped the reality series idea. It's not a good one, it just seems like a media ploy. Unless you go by the ideology that there's no such thing as bad publicity, then I think it will hurt him more than help.
