(CNN) -- Authorities have arrested a "possible suspect" in the decade-old JonBenet Ramsey murder investigation, law enforcement sources told CNN on Wednesday.

An investigator with the Boulder County, Colorado, District Attorney's office traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, and is bringing a suspect back to the United States, CNN Denver affiliate KUSA reported.

The suspect was arrested Wednesday morning and has confessed to certain elements of the crime that are unknown to the general public, KUSA reported.

The man already was already held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges, sources told The Associated Press.

Prosecutors have not confirmed the identity of the suspect, but expect to hold a press conference later today.

JonBenet's beaten and strangled body was found in the basement of the family home in Boulder, Colorado, the day after Christmas in 1996. She was 6.

A grand jury investigation into the death of the child beauty pageant winner ended without charges in 1999.

The investigation focused a spotlight on the child's parents, John and Patsy Ramsey. Patsy Ramsey died in June of ovarian cancer. She was 49.

The Ramseys said an intruder committed the crime, but they remained the subject of suspicion and speculation.

In 2003, a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against the Ramseys, blaming the police and the FBI for bungling the investigation. The Boulder County District Attorney's Office concurred with the judge's opinion the following month, saying there was little evidence against the couple

The Ramseys left Colorado and had a house in Charlevoix, Michigan, where John Ramsey unsuccessfully ran for office in 2004, and in Atlanta, Georgia

This was such a horrible murder, I hope this can give closure to the family.

I heard on FOX news that apparently this guy confessed some things that only the killer would have known.

I guess a lot of people owe an apology to the Ramsey's for suspecting them all these years. Too bad Patsy died before finding this out.

One of the saddest things is that mother passed away while many still believed that she and her husband were responsible for her death. Atleast it looks like they'll finally have their name cleared from this. According to new reports she knew about this guybeing close to being captured before she died.

Of course the suspects family is defending the guy. His brother was on FOX saying there's no way he could have done this.

Did the family member comment on him being picked up for sex crimes charges before the murder charges, and how the police have been after him for awhile due to child pornography?

I hope the rest of the Ramsey family can find some measure of peace now it appears them name is going to be cleared and their daughter's murderer captured.

Nope. His brother said he's never been in trouble before. I was waiting for Greta to mention that fact to him that but she never did.

Ok - this is wierd for me to say but after watching the video "confession" and reading how he was "obsessed" about Jon Benet here is a quote from CNN and his father from CNN.com:

"He researched everything he could about her," Wexford Karr said.

So like I was saying - after watching his video confession - I feel like he's lying....like his demeanor towards the press the lady says "how did you get into the basement" - the look on his face, very dramatic "no comment" and every time after that. He holds his head up high & acts as if he is loving the attention. Like he became so obsessed with her that he WANTS to be the person who killed her.

I hope its true though - because its such an old case that needs to be resolved...but supposedly the mother knew an arrest was coming before she died so hopefully that gave her some sort of closure.

The guy looks like he's seriously anorexic. Not the point I know!

Why would anyone lie about killing a child? Doesn't he know that he'll be in jail for the rest of his life and most likely would get the death penalty?

I know that - but it has happened. Where someone was so obsessed they wanted to be the bad guy to get that "title" that punishment.

I know I'm stretching it quite a bit here - I just watched the video and it just seems (other than him) something is really off about this whole thing....

Edited to say - the way he's speaking to the press - I wish you could all hear me - but his look - his head held high - "no comment" with such dramatics...he's so proud to be admitting - yelling out things to the press "i loved her, it was an accident I loved her" its just odd.
