Any Canucks out there ready to talk... Liberals, conservatives, NDP and Bloc oh my!

Hi all,

I didn't see any threads for a Canadian Politics so I thought I would start on of my own. It seems that things on the political landscape in Canada have been quiet this summer, but the house returns on Sept 19/2005.

I wiil pose some questions to you, holding out hope that someone will share their toughts:

Stephen Harper: Scariest man in Canada or misunderstood idealist?

Jack Layton: Left wing hero or nutbar from T.O?

Paul Martin: Bono's bitch or Man on the brink of greatness?

Gilles Duceppe: Ready to take on leadership of Quebec or relic of the early 90's referndums?

I ask you Canada to participate in the process.

Thanks!

P.S. To answer my own questions:

Stephen Harper is the scariest man ever to tread in Canada. I am afraid of having him come into power and hope that all of Canadian shoves him into obscurity.

Jack Layton: Both. I believe he can bring up a lot of valid agruments for the left wing cause, however he does seem a little Willy Wonka.

Paul Martin: Why oh why did you forsake us? It could have been a great time for change. Canada leading the charge in diplomacy and foreign aid. Where did it all go wrong? I hope Paul Martin is Bono's bitch, it may help raise some awareness in this great country of ours.

Gilles Duceppe: I don't live in Quebec, thus I do not feel that Duceppe is relevant in my life. I am not ready to share my thoughts on Separation, but I am pretty sure that the time has passed on this issue. I believe that if one was truly opposed to the Canadian system, why create a political party to join the process? Not sending representatives would be more proactive then sending them.

Anyways, have a great day!

Greetings!

We used to have a Canadian thread, but it died a while back. I pretty much agree with your assessment of our current batch of leaders. I support the Liberal party in general, although I don't always agree with them. I liked Martin as a finance minister, and I think the country is in a much better situation now than before he took the job. But he just doesn't have the personality and charisma to be a good leader and get everyone behind him when the tough decisions need to be made. I'm tired of the "dithering" too, and the complete paralysis the Federal government seems to be suffering from.

And I want my damn CBC back! We could have really used CBC News this week, what with the crisis in NO.

Hi,

Thanks for responding. I hope we can get the Canadians back here to this thread.

I whole heartedly agree with you about the dithering and the CBC.

Regarding the dithering: When was it ever a bad thing to stand up for your convictions and promote discussion on a topic. If Canada is going to do something, we need discussion and public debate. I would rather lose standing up for what I believe in than lose because I didn't put in enough effort. Paul Martin needs to step up, just because he has a minprity government doesn't mean he has to shy away from everything. Take a stand and the electorate may respect it and vote you in with a majority.

The CBC: Although I have to admit I hav enjoyed watching The Star Wars movie for the last three Sunday's, I do miss a Canadian take on the world news. I am not as interested in the other stations as I often get my news from CBC and CBC Newsworld. I hope the lookout ends soon, especially as we head towards the magnificent re turn of "Hockey Night In Canada". I am tired of flipping past CBC Newsworld and finding Antiques roadshow on again!

Hey I'm recently into this, because I turned 18 back in Feb. So I have the right to vote, I really want to be able to know about the issues. I'm inbetween Martin and Harper, I really wish we had some one that was both of them
