Another teacher accused of having sexual relations with student...

Quote:
BRISTOL, Va. – School officials were mum Tuesday about a teacher accused of having oral sex with one of her students.
Quote:
Superintendent Frank Finan would not answer any questions about 32-year-old teacher Melissa Michelle Deel or the accusations’ effect on Virginia Middle School.

It's about time they start handing down some harsh penalties for this. It seems to be happening more and more now.

yeah sometimes younger teachers have problems dealing with their job and whatnot and do stuff with students. my mom's been a teacher for 20 years and she never did anything with a student, but its for every teacher and how they cope. because of mary kay letourneau more of these cases are public.

I wonder if the boy had a problem with the teacher giving him head! It's like the other day at work we wondering how many MEN file sexual harassment lawsuits...there are some chicks at work I'd LOVE if they sexually harassed me

Alot of double standards go on with sexual issues.

1.) If a guy finds out a kid had sex with his teacher, alot of the times they'll think that's awesome. Now if that same guy hears that a young girl had sex with her teacher, they think its disgusting and that guy should be locked up forever.

2.) Alot of women who do sexual assaults get off easier than guys. If a woman teacher has sex with her student, there's something wrong with her. If a man has sex with his student, he's a disgusting criminal that deserves no help.

There definately are a lot of double standards, on both sides. What I hate is when people act like only women get the short end of the stick. I'm a woman and I don't appreciate other women making the rest of us look like "poor me" cases. It goes both ways.

The leaps forward that feminism has had is good but at the same time some women are taking advantage of the double standards society has, and that's not good for the rest of womenfolk.

I think that the teachers should try their best to avoid such situations, even if you're attracted to the kid. Or at least pursue the relationship once the kid's out of school, at least.

Lauren- Look around. Yeah I'd say it is going pretty great, we get to cat call and slap a man's butt at will and nobody says a thing about it. Not even the man because he's afraid we will turn it around and slap him with a sexual harrassment suit, saying that "he started it." He knows he won't have a chance in the justice system because who in their right mind is going to believe that a woman groped a man, and the man is actually upset about it! And why should he!? In a society where people can sue MacDonalds for coffee being to hot and actually get money out of it, no wonder he's afraid. We really have them shakin in their boots don't we!! Yes, things are going swimmingly indeed.

Actually, we don't say anything because we enjoy that.

Not all men...I speak for my family and friends of course, but not all men.

But there again is another double standard. See, most women enjoy the cat calls too but we lord our superior womens rights over the heads of the men. Not on perpose I'm sure, It's just a result of living in this place long enough that it comes second nature to a woman to know she can get away with anything. We loving knowing that if the wrong person slaps our butt or makes a suggestive comment, we can get them fired, arrested of at least socially rejected by others around them. Such is our womanly influence.

I'm not saying that equal rights are a bad thing, the problem is that right now it's not equal, It's done a complete reversal from what it was when men had all the power. It should be equal. Right now it's not. I hope I'll live to see it become equal but at this rate, it seems by the time I'm all grown up and ready to have children, I won't be able to because my husband will have been imprisoned for making a suggestive comment to me.

I doubt it'll ever be completely fair. In some areas women are still not treated as an equal (I think there are reports that still show that men get paid better than women in certain fields). But when it comes to legal issues, women will usually get off on crimes with lesser punishments than men who commit the same ones. In alot of ways I don't think both sides really want it to be fair.

Very true. But in some professions, the lesser pay is justified. Take pro sports for example. It's not that women are looked down upon its simply that womens sports don't have as much of a fallowing in most areas as men do. Why pay somebody more money when you aren't bringing in more to begin with?
