I read about this too. I mean, one minute he's visiting his new baby sister and then 3 days later he's dead? That's crazy! Investigators think it wasn't an accident.

Police investigating the death of the son of former Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith at her hospital bedside said yesterday that they were treating the incident as suspicious after it emerged that a third, unidentified, person had been in the room.
Daniel Smith, 20, died on Sunday morning slumped in a chair next to his mother's bed. He was visiting her in her maternity room at the Doctors Hospital in Nassau, a Bahamian beach town, three days after she had given birth to a girl.

The assistant commissioner of the Royal Bahamian police force declined to name the third person, saying it might jeopardise the investigation. But he said a formal inquiry would be held and could lead to criminal charges.
The coroner, Linda Virgill, was reported by Associated Press as saying that she also was aware of the third person. "I can confirm that there was definitely a third person in the room at the time of death and I do know who that person is," Ms Virgill told AP. "But I am unwilling to reveal that information at this time."

Ms Virgill also said authorities believe they know what killed Mr Smith, but were awaiting a toxicology report. She declined to disclose details but said there was no sign of physical injury to Mr Smith.

The extraordinary confluence of events of the birth and death of her children within three days of each other was noted on Ms Smith's website yesterday. "On September 7 Anna Nicole gave birth to a healthy 6lb 9oz baby girl. Her son Daniel was in the Bahamas with her to share in the joy of his baby sister when he passed away suddenly on the morning of September 10."

It went on to dismiss speculation that Daniel's death was drugs related and said: "He was her pride and joy and an amazing human being."

In the "about me" section of her website Ms Smith says: "Is it just me or does controversy seem to follow me around?"

Daniel was Ms Smith's son by her first husband, Bill Smith, whom she divorced in 1987. In 1993 she was named Playboy's playmate of the year and a year later, aged 26, she married the American oil tycoon Howard Marshall, who was 89. He died 14 months into the marriage, leaving a fortune valued at $1.6bn (£855m).

Ms Smith then became embroiled in a protracted legal wrangle over her late husband's estate; it has now reached the US supreme court. Initially she was awarded $474m of Mr Marshall's money, but that was reduced to about $89m after his son E Pierce Marshall contested that he should be the only heir.

A court in Texas later cut off Ms Smith's inheritance altogether. But the supreme court ruled unanimously in February that she should be allowed to pursue her case through federal courts in California. The dispute continues.

Whether his cause of death was natural or not, imagine knowing that your son died just days after you had given birth.

They say the 3rd guy - Anna's Nicloe's assistant - was in the room too when her son died and that Anna was screaming that he killed her son. She was so upset that the hospital had to sedate her.

JUST three hours before his mysterious death, Anna Nicole Smith's son was playing with his newborn sister, Hannah.

Then, at 9.30 in the morning, Daniel Smith, 20, was dead, covered in blood and vomit in his mother's Bahamas hospital room.
Police say a nurse saw Daniel playing with his mother's new baby about 6.30am and, little more than an hour later, mother, son and her lawyer, Howard K. Stern, were asleep in Anna Nicole Smith's room at Nassau's Doctors Hospital.

Assistant Commissioner Reginald Ferguson, of the Royal Bahamian Police, said "around 9.38am, an alarm was sounded at the nurses' station from Room 201".

It's understood Anna Nicole Smith awoke to find her son in a chair, vomiting uncontrollably and coughing up blood.

The former Playboy model then frantically tried to revive her son before doctors spent 23 minutes trying to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at 10am.

Witnesses said Smith became hysterical, screaming at long-time lawyer Stern: "You caused this."

Smith was yesterday under sedation. Another lawyer, Michael Scott, said she wanted to be alone.

"She's resting," Mr Scott said. "She's obviously devastated.

"It's going to take a long time to heal.

"She's in seclusion and wants some privacy."

And, on her website, a statement was posted, saying Smith was "absolutely devastated by the loss of her son. He was her pride and joy and an amazing human being".

It's widely believed Daniel Smith died of a drug overdose.

A Bahamian judge yesterday said she knew what killed the one-time actor, but said she would not release her finding pending toxicology reports.

"He did not have any external injuries on his body, so we can rule (natural death) out," Judge Linda Virgil said.

"We do know the cause of death, however I wish to reserve (it) pending the toxicology reports . . . then I will be in a position to review the findings.

"Based on the findings, if it involves one of a criminal nature, then that matter would be referred to the Supreme Court for criminal charges."

A coronial inquiry into Daniel Smith's death will be held next month and will include the toxicology reports and evidence from his mother.

This week's death is the latest tragedy in the sad and often bizarre life of Anna Nicole Smith.

The product of a broken home, Smith, then known as Vickie Lynn, was 17 when she married a cook called Billy at her local Texas restaurant.

The bride wore a dress and the groom donned jeans for the big day.

The marriage lasted only two years, during which her now dead son was born.

Vickie Lyn fled the abusive marriage to Houston, where she bleached her hair, had breast implants and began pole dancing at Houston's GiGi cabaret.

Her life might well have declined into a life of forgettable mediocrity but for one night in 1990 when her life changed forever.

The single mother, then 22, met octogenarian Texas oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall II.

Marshall was infatuated with "Sweet Cheeks", as the dancer was known. He whisked her from her life of stripping and, over the next few years, lavished her with millions of dollars in gifts, two cars and a cottage in LA's exclusive suburb of Bel Air.

MARSHALL was proud of his new young girlfriend and wanted to show her off to the world. He hired a photographer to take topless shots of his now aspiring model girlfriend and sent them to Playboy magazine.

Playboy boss Hugh Hefner was so impressed he featured her on the March 1992 cover, wearing a low-cut evening gown.

Smith's career had taken off. More fame followed when the still Vickie Lynn replaced Claudia Schiffer as the Guess jeans girl. It was Guess president Paul Marciano who advised her to change her name to Anna Nicole Smith.

In 1994, at 26, Smith married 89-year-old Marshall.

A year later, Marshall died, sparking a long legal tug-of-war between Smith and Marshall's son, Pierce, over the tycoon's estate.

Smith was at first awarded $628 million.

For the past decade she has been stuck in the courts, as Marshall's family fights to keep her away from the cash.

As the court battle has continued, Smith's life has descended into a series of sad headlines.

She has battled binge eating, drug and alcohol abuse and has made several bizarre public appearances -- from stripping on television to being incapable of speaking at high profile awards shows.

It was just on ET that he was sleeping in a bed and Anna woke up to him not breathing and she and Stern tried to revive him. So what is it? Was he vomiting? Did they find him not breathing? Was he in the chair or a bed? I am just confused at all this conflicting information.

Nevertheless, no matter what, my heart goes out to Anna. No mother deserves to lose a child.
