Ads to Back Schwarznegger for president

Quote:
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Californians will soon see advertisements urging them to help give Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and other foreign-born citizens the chance to run for president.

I understand and know what the intention was when the founding fathers decided that they should never let a foreign born person to be president of this country. But I feel that if you are loyal to this country, no matter where you are born, that you should be able to become president

Many great politicians we're foreign born. Henry Kissnger, Madeline Albright. 2 members of Bush's cabinet we're foreign born, Arnold and the up and coming Democrat Govener from Michigan, Jen Granholm.

I am joining up in this cause!

I wouldn't mind being President of the US , and after Bush, Ahnold would definately be a step in the right direction for the GOP, so why not?

I have images of him as the Terminator. Being the next Bush would suit him to a T

I don't have a problem with someone foreign-born being president, but I have a big problem with Arnold Schwarzenegger being president.

Edit: Well, maybe not a big problem, since he's kind of socially liberal compared to his colleagues. But I can't take someone seriously who constantly repeats the phrase "girly-men" and nearly starts laughing at his own incredible wit afterwards every time.

Cliche, but I just get this mental image of him losing and saying "I'll be back."

As surprising as it sounds, I actually think that Arnold would make a good president.

Now here me out, his approval rating in California is huge. Over 65% of the state thinks he's doing a great job. Plus, he's republican and California is obviously a democratic state.

Plus, I think the man is more smart than anyone really gives him credit for.

This is just great. You go to bed and the world is (more or less) sane...you wake up and you're in the Collector's Edition DVD of Demolition Man. How does that happen, anyway?

I am, however, looking forward to all restaurants being Taco Bell.

I don't have a problem with foreign born Americans running for President. However an amendment to the Constitution changed just for Schwarzenegger to run is a bit much. I can't figure out whether he thinks he's Hans or Franz from Saturday Night Live when he speaks.

Besides he's pro-choice, believes in stem cell research and IIRC was not against gay unions. How's that going to fit in with the Christian Conservatives of the Republican Party?

Well, the amendment wouldn't be just for him. It would then allow anyone else that was foreign born to run for president if they so desired. It's just being brought up with Arnold cause he has the support of people wanting him to run. If it wasn't for him right now eventually it would happen with some other candiate that people wanted.

And I think that he would be a good choice for the republican party. He would draw in a lot of the swing voters who are more liberal. I would have less problems supporting a republican government if they supported several liberal agendas. Just because he supports a few liberal trains of thought doesn't make him bad.

Plus, on the gay topic Cheney's daughter is a lesbian and no one really seemed to have a huge problem with that. I don't think it really affected any of the votes.

I think it should happen but the woman behind this campaign is a Schwarzenegger suporter. They're even calling it the Schwarzenegger Constitutional Amendment. It's no secret that Republicans have been talking about this for awhile.

It should happen but not because Republicans want him as their candidate in '08..that's all I'm saying.

It's not really the people he would bring in..it would be the people in the Republican Party now who wouldn't vote for him because of his stances. The party itself has taken a pretty conservative bent in terms of the Senate and Congressional leaders as well. The Conservative family groups have said that they expect something in return for putting Bush in office.

It's just something that the Republicans have to consider now whoever they run.

Cheney supported Bush's ban on gay marriage when pushed even though personally he probably felt otherwise.

I would vote for him over the vast majority of possible Republican candidates.

He is a big supporter of stem cell research and believes in fiscal responsibility. He is fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

I would support him running for president.

In fairness to the women who started the drive/website, It does also say at the top..amendforarnoldandjen. that Jen being Jen Grimholm?

But out of all foreign born politicians, I think Arnold has the best chance of making it work

With his socially liberal/fiscally conservative stance, it appears to alot of moderates.

I especially like his support of Stem cell research.

I guess I'm in a tiny minority that thinks that this amendment shouldn't go through. Not so much against Schwarzenegger, because I have no problem with him, but against people in the future that may not be as good for our national interest. Now, if it went through, I wouldn't cry over it or anything. But I think doing it just so Arnold can get to be president is pretty sad.

I don't know about this. Honestly, I don't think Arnold is fit to be Governor let alone President of the United States.
