NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio -- An alleged peeping Tom remains in the intensive care unit after reportedly being assaulted with a tree branch, NewsChannel5 reported.

Officials said Mario Russo, 44, was attacked after he was spotted outside a bedroom window wearing his pants around his ankles and watching a 5-year-old girl who was sleeping in a unit at the Bunker Ridge Apartments.

Russo was reportedly hiding in bushes.

Police said after he was discovered a group of six people, include the girl's mother, aunt and their boyfriends attacked him and brutally beat him for more than an hour.


Beating Suspects

The girl's mother, Stacy Umstott, 28; her aunt, Athena Lemieux, 20; Brandon Breedon, 21; Nicholas Phipps, 21; and Khald Arafat, 34; and a 15-year-old are in police custody. They face felonious assault and rape charges. Murder charges could be filed if Russo dies.

The girl's aunt admitted to sexually assaulting Russo with a tree branch, police said.

The incident was caught on tape.

Meanwhile, police said that citizens should not take matters into their own hands

"To take matters into their own hands like they did was just way, way beyond reason," North Royalton Detective Jay Drake said.

Mario Russo, 44, was initially in critical condition after being beaten by a group of six people. Russo was attacked after he was reportedly spotted outside a bedroom window wearing his pants around his ankles and watching a 5-year-old girl who was sleeping in a unit at the Bunker Ridge Apartments.

The girl's aunt admitted to sexually assaulting Russo with a tree branch, police said.


Beating Suspects

Five adults involved in the beating face felonious assault and rape charges.

A juvenile also faces charges.

Two of six of the suspects have had other run-ins with the law, WEWS reported.


One was charged with drug trafficking and theft, and another with assault and drunken driving charges. It's unclear who faced the charges.

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully when that guy goes to jail he will get much more of it. The tree branch is just crossing the line. Of course if it was family, my baby sister, that guy wouldn't be alive. Even though I don't like violence unless its life or death. Family is Family, blood is blood.

I'm not into that whole vigilante thing. They could've at least waited until they saw what the courts would do, and if he got off then I don't know. But let the courts do what they're supposed to do and take it from there. Sodomizing the man just makes me put them on the same level that he's on to me. The aunt's gonna have to sign up as a sexual predator now.

He probably had some mental problems if he was doing that...nonetheless it is sick and he should be prosecuted for it.

My first thought would NEVER be go out and beat them, it would always be call 911. What if he had a gun? You never know.

Anyways, two wrongs don't make a right.

Sucks to be them, but it serves them right. There is a reason we have a police system and court system in this countyr.

No, people haven't overlooked what he did. The guy is sick, and I would say he deserevd the beating. The rape of him with the tree branch went too far.

i totally think that what he did was wrong, but i also think what they did was wrong. what i'm saying is that they should have let the courts take care of it before taking any action. he would've gotten what was coming to him. Prisons don't like pediophiles.

Were you refering to what pacifierrocks said? Because, she(assume she) never said that it was OK for him to be beaten. She said he would have gotten what was coming for him. It's a well known fact or atleast I think it is that prisons don't like pediophiles. By being sentenced to prison he would get everything that comes along with it including the beatings if they were to happen. If prisons were not meant to have people pay for their crimes in everyway, then the U.S Government who is more than likley aware of what goes on would take EVERY precausion to protect sexual predators.
