I'm so upset that I have classes the morning of the inauguration and I won't be able to watch any part of it, really. I hope someone will youtube the speech or put it online or something so I can watch it when I get back. If anyone finds it, can you please post a link to it for me. I'd really appreciate it.

I voted for Obama and am looking forward to his inauguration, but I'm a little displeased when I read about a $150 million price tag....it just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth when I think about the mess our economy is in, plummeting 401k's, and people losing their jobs left and right. There was a lot of criticism when Bush spent about $40 million at the 2004 inauguration, so I find it a little hypocritical.

That being said I am looking forward to watching him be sworn in, but am looking forward even MORE to when the actual work starts getting done!

My sister starts her spring semester on Tuesday but she's not going. This moment is too important. :nods:

I'll post the link if I find it.

I'm not too happy about the price tag either, but

I don't even know how some people can afford to go but if they can I guess the price tag is worth it for them.

I am also missing it all thanks to class and work so I second the request regarding if anyone could post something on here please.

George Mason is starting their semester on Wednesday. Students have Monday and Tuesday off.

I am.

My neighbor rented out his basement for $9,000 for 3 days. The other morning I was chatting with the couple staying with them. They are from Africa and have never been to the US and never planned to, but they came to see this. And they have no idea what to do or how to do anything around here and they don't know anyone, but they are on an adventure! The atmosphere around here is incredible.

And it snowed this morning and they all fainted.

Finally saying good bye to Bush is just as gratifying as welcoming Obama.

I was a little shell shocked at the price of the Inauguration but what hasn't tripled in price in the last 4 years? Besides, I doubt he had anything to do with the planning of the event or the price tag. But I agree it makes me sad to think of that kind of money being spent when the economy is in shambles. I am excited for the new President and have high hopes for a successful event and Presidency. I am sure a lot of the money was spent on security which is the tightest of any President so far.. It really has to be IMO.

I think there's been some poor reporting by the media on the cost of the inauguration.

Bush's cost in '04 is being reported at around 44 million but that doesn't include the security costs which bumps it up over 100 million.

Here's a link -

Media Matters - MSNBC's Tamron Hall asserted Bush's 2005 inauguration "cost roughly $40 million," ignored reported $100 million in additional costs

Also I've head that CNN has a commercial about Obama and how they'll "hold him to the fire". Hello? Where was the media in late 2002 and 2003 when they were stenographers for Bush and the Iraq War? I used to watch CNN for breaking news stories but now it's MSNBC even though some of their reporters are over the top.
