2008 Presidential Election:(Part 9) The Maverick Vs. The Community Organizer

CNN Electoral Map Calculator - Election Center 2008 from CNN.com
With this ^ you can play out your own results, see 04's results & see the one scenario in which a tie could occur. Wouldn't that be fun?

LOL. The title reminds me of Jon Stewart saying the election was between Old Man McGrumpypants and Arugala Eating Nancy Boy.

As an aside, I am VERY excited about this...Rasmussen, which actually tends to be very conservative and minimize the Democratic success in polls, has my very own state of North Carolina as currently pulling ahead for Obama!

Obama 49 McCain 47

This campaign is making me weary. A video of Palin and an alleged witch hunter ministers (?) from Kenya has surfaced:

Palin and the Witch Hunter - Chapter II. Mudflats

Can you imagine the reaction if this was Obama?

Palin's interview with Katie Couric was worse on video than just reading the transcript. I don't think Tina Fey has to even write a dialogue this weekend - just repeat word for word that interview.

I can't wait for it to be November 5th.

Yes. If that was Obama, people would be up in arms. The news stations are barely covering it, though.

There's actually several scenario's for a tie of course, but one that I see as more likely than the one proposed on CNN is if the states aleady colored in my opening electoral map image go as planned(Obama=175; McCain=174) & the remaining states go as followed:

CO(9)= Obama
VA(13)= McCain
NM(5)= Obama
NC(15)= McCain
MN(10)= Obama
OH(20)= McCain
MI(17)= Obama
NH(4)= McCain
IA(7)= Obama
NV(5)= McCain
WI(10)= Obama
FL(27)= McCain
PA(21)= Obama
MO(11)= McCain
NJ(15)= Obama
269=269

I sure wish I lived in NH right now as opposed to MA. My vote would suddenly have meaning for once! You could also flip NH & NV for Obama & CO for McCain & reach a tie that way. And according to the polls these are VERY plausible scenarios!

I'm hoping Indiana goes Democrat. We have huge college campuses in the state, IU, Ball State, Purdue, so we could do it, but college students are really bad about voting, which sucks because everything has an impact on us as well, but, we'll see. It will probably be a red state again...and again and again and...

As someone who lives in Florida, I can say that it's possible that Obama could win Florida. The polls say that McCain and Obama are tied but I think it's leaning more for Obama. Now the "powers-that-be" doing something fraudulent to the voting machines to make McCain is another thing.

As far as the bailout, I don't support it unless it's helping the ones suffering now. Who cares if it'll make things better 20 years from now?! People are out on the street as we speak. And I hope the plan does fail - I'm sick of McCain being the maverick in everything. If I recall correctly, Obama called him first suggesting that they get together about the financial mess - not McCain.

I think that NH could easily go Obama. Maybe that's just me, but I'm in NH, and it seems like he's getting lots of support, at least with all the people I talk to. And, of course, his ads are saturating the airwaves more than McCain's. But that's interesting those numbers that created a tie. Could you imagine if it tied? That would be just unreal.

Who thinks that there will still be a debate tomorrow? I really hope there is because I really want to hear what they have to say.

Isn't Florida traditionally divided between the more "liberal" population centres (for instance, Miami) versus the older-but-generally-richer Panhandle? Or am I completely shaming my poli. sci. profs as I say this?

I have to say that the reactions to McCain snubbing Letterman (I'm calling it that to give it a name, not to say that I know what actually went on there) are troubling me quite a lot. It's like it's okay to call Democrats every name in the book, elitist being the most commonly used, even though we all know it's patently untrue, but no one will bother to examine the real character flaws of the Republican candidate.

McCain was a war hero over thirty years ago. You'll get no argument from me on that front. And I remember him from much more recently when he seemed a decent enough guy. But nothing he says is true anymore. He says he wants change, but all of his policies are exactly the same ones as Bush. So, clearly, all he wants is to appeal to people who want change. And now he skips a TV appearance (and, yeah, big shocker, lies about it at first) because "in these troubling times, it seemed inappropriate to go on a light-hearted program" (I'm paraphrasing." Are you kidding me?

People went on Letterman, on Leno, on the Daily Show after September 11. I get that times are rough now. I get it probably more than Mr. "I Can't Remember How Many Houses I Have" gets it. But what the hell is wrong with him that he can't even honor that minor a commitment?

McCain's antics are just a sham. He's trying so hard to prove that he's a "maverick" that he's losing credibility.

His alternative plan is to cut corporate taxes (what a surprise!) and then create a commission to discuss the bailout. No details at all - and at least half of the country will fall for it.

What I've heard is that the debate will be a town hall format if McCain is a no show.

Who wants to bet that Palin will be a no show on the 2nd for her debate?

Okay so I spoke to my dad who teaches economics and this is what he told me. He says the bailout does nothing for the economy in the long run but prop up a failing economic system. He says not bailing out these companies would actually be more benefitial in the long run. It simply makes sure that rich people continue to stay rich. The stock market is over-inflated according to the way he broke it down and bailing out these companies will not ensure a drop in an emplyment nor will inflation stagnate. Not bailing out these companies would send a message to end subprime mortgages and for banks to only loan out money they actually rather than having investors own the mortgages.

Basically, this was bound to happen and the bailout is just another way to help the people who started this mess.

I just hate that this bail out is being shoved down our throats. I've heard what genki is saying and then I've heard that the bail out is supposed to help the companies that are still functioning with credit - not the ones that are in trouble with sub prime mortgages.

I know that things are in trouble but color me fairly confused.

What really pisses me off about McCain is that Republicans and Democrats alike were saying they were having the best bipartisan meetings they'd had in years.

And then McCain shows up.

And this all screeches to a halt and they're all back in their defensive corners.

All so McCain can sit there and do NOTHING. And say NOTHING.

For someone who claims to put country first, he's acting an awful lot like this is a game and since he's paid his dues, he deserves all the power.
