I totally agree. His plan is such a joke.

God..pro abortion women pushing the late term abortions.

BTW - McCain's expressions give him sort of a startled look.

The CNN Debate team (if you're watching CNN in HD) shows that they favor McCain right now. What program are they watching?

I think it is because he is going on the attack. We need to fact check his statements.

Actually... This has been one of the BEST debates of all four, IMO.

We finally got some real answers and not just talking points. Some of it was rehashed, of course, but for once, I found myself tuning back in (as opposed to just tuning out in the beginning and then back in for the last five minutes).

I am glad the last question was about education.

I think everything comes back to this because not only are the young the future of this country, obviously... But all the other issues like the economy, national security, etc... They all, in one way or another, have to do with education, or not being educated as the case may be. Yes, energy and dependence on foreign oil is the physical consequence (symptom?) of some of the problems we face, but it all starts with having an educated work force who can then find alternative and innovative ways to approach and FIX some of these problems AND avoid them in the future.

McCain did a little better tonight - the media wants a close race though.

Obama is just so much more positive IMO.

I was talking about this over lunch with some buddies of mine. We're really depressed that Harper increased on his minority lead.

It seems to me that McCain isn't selling anything but fear. It's the same tactic Bush used in 2004, which isn't surprising considering they're using the same team. But, yeah, nothing he's saying makes any sense. All he's saying is "the world is out to get you, but you can trust me."

I mean, would you any rational person trust one of the few men behind the Savings and Loan scandal with the current economic crisis? Of course not, just as no rational person would believe a health benefit package for a whole family can be realistically be made affordable by such a man.

All he's saying is, "Be afraid. My opponent is an Islamist fraternizer, a domestic-terrorist supporter, who hasn't fought in a war and has never been involved in an economic crisis. I hate everyone who isn't an American, and even some Americans too, I hate violence, but I have fought in a war, and I have been involved in an economic crisis. I'm your guy!"

Flashy stuff is always more attractive than real answers. Because real answers are complicated and take time. And it's so much easier and faster to rile up people with fear and notions of patriotism. They're, like, the ultimate political shortcuts.

Really? I feel that McCain was the one making the smirks most of the time.

The main difference between this debate the past ones is McCain actually did what he had threatened to do and that was bring up Ayers, and even Acorn which I hinted at earlier.

I wasn't shocked by this from an analytical perspective... But from a viewer perspective, I was caught off guard because for the last two debates, McCain kept saying he was going to "knock Barack Obama out, and eery time that didn't happen, it made him more and more the candidate who cried wolf. Tonight, he finally takes a huge swing at Barack... But the irony is... Nobody really cares. It appears as if it was too little, too late like a lot of analysts have already stated.

Yeah, he was smirking.

People on CNN said they didn't care about Ayers or Joe the plumber.

He played really dirty tonight but I think that is what his supporters wanted. I don't know. I'm exhausted from it all and am glad that it is over.

Did anybody else think it was a brilliant strategy for Obama to goad McCain into the Ayers/Acorn accusations?

It was a very risky and counter-intuitive move... But it paid off. McCain torpedoed his own campaign efforts to question Obama's character when he was forced to defend the relavence of the accusations... And then McCain even said, "I'm not concerned by a washed-up terrorist, blah, blah, blah". I could not believe that...

But I think this has been one of McCain's weaknesses through out the entire campaign: Consistency of Tone.

McCain wants people to get angry and "passionate"... Except people don't want that right now. People are scared, for lack of a better word. If you want to get people passionate, get them riled up for the RIGHT reasons. Tell them it is going to get better. Tell them they are NOT alone... The number one difference *I* think Obama and Democrats have done a fantastic job on even before the economic crisis... And people are more willing to follow you then just spouting gloom and doom and telling them they are "on their own", more or less. Who wants to hear they are "on their own" during a time of crisis? Talk about a counter-intuitive strategy...

I'll be interested to check out factcheck.org tomorrow to see what they say about the facts on the debate. I didn't catch all of it because of my class, but what I saw was interesting.

If he doesn't care about a washed up terrorist, why does he always talk about him at the rallies?
