The great Australian dream has come true for teenager Jade, who has just won a house worth half a million dollars in a surf life saving club raffle.

Jade, a 16-year-old from Melbourne was holidaying with her family on the Gold Coast when her boyfriend bought her a $5 raffle ticket to the Surf Life Saving Art Union Competition.

"I wanted to win the car, but I won a house, which is even better," Jade said.

With a one in a million chance of winning, Jade and her parents, Rick and Tracey could not believe it when she won first prize.

Jade thought they were joking when she got the phone call.

"They told me that I'd won a house and I'd given the phone to mum and she's started yelling at them because she thought it was a joke," she said.

Having been handed what most people work a lifetime for, Jade's parents, who are still paying off their own mortgage, are thrilled to see their daughter get a head start in life.

"I gave her a few sums and she worked out it would take her 16 years to save for a deposit for this house if she had to buy it herself," said Rick.
