12 die in dual shootings at Fort Hood, Texas

Army: 12 die in dual shootings at Fort Hood, Texas - Yahoo! News

Breaking News: 12 dead in dual attacks at Fort Hood, Texas

FORT HOOD, Texas – The U.S. Army says 12 people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting rampage on the Fort Hood Army base in Texas. Lt. Gen Bob Cone said at a news conference that one shooter has been killed and two suspects were apprehended on Thursday. He says they are all U.S. soldiers.

The shooting began around 1:30 p.m. Cone says that all the casualties took place at the base's Soldier Readiness Center where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening.

He says the primary shooter used two handguns in the attack.

Gee whiz. What would possess the shooter to attack soldiers, for goodness sakes?!

I'm following this on CNN. So horrible

Their families and friends are in my thoughts

Edit: Yikes. Apparently one of the shooters was an Army mental health professional.

Yeah, apparently he had a few "mental issues" of his own. How this guy got the job of mental health professional is beyond me.

The guy converted to extremist views of Islam. So of course, he was doing what needed to be done, in his mind. It still blows me away why soldiers don't carry weapons on base in this country. If those men and women had been armed, this fight would have lasted fifteen seconds instead of longer. I feel so sorry for the families and friends of those that were killed. No one expects a soldier to die on an army base on US soil. It must be horrible.

I'm assuming that this wasn't exactly known information on the base?

There's going to be a moment of silence today at 1 p.m. EST, which was the time of the shooting yesterday. Strange that this Monday is Veteran's Day too.

Is this another military shooting?

Because I was just gonna say that PTSD probably has a lot to do with these unexpected, unprovoked acts of violence. Sometimes, when people don't think there's a way out, they take it out on others. I don't know why, I just know it happens.

It is. It's kind of strange how we never hear about all of these tragedies on the Canadian news and, then, you go to the American stations, and it's all anyone's talking about (well, and H1N1).
